Nycfc Seeks To Claim Jack Harrison As Homegrown

I think you completely misunderstood my post.

Yes, I know he is from England, and he spent his High School years here, with his mother and friends in the NYC area - correct me if I'm wrong but his mother is in the US and not in England. And my point is that he'd rather play in the US for NYCFC, but IF he can't be assured of that, he'd rather go back to England.
Then let me correct you then, because you are wrong, he is living here by himself at a private academy. Gatorade flew his mother in from England for his HS player of the year award. I say this because it only reinforces the fact that he probably feels more American than English at this point.

But who knows, maybe he misses his mom and sees more money in Europe (which he could easily sign with).

But how seriously are European teams taking US college play? Serious enough to sign a player out of college with no professional experience?

Totally agree, except this HS player is 1) English, so no visa issues and 2) won an award that makes him the best HS male soccer player in a country of 325 million people. That probably means more than just some random okay HS soccer kid.

What do you think the reaction would be if he decided to go to Europe. Then gets signed by MCFC and loaned to us? Approximately how many bricks would be shat?

But would MLS allow that to happen? They make the rules, would they not be furious as the obvious sidestep of their authority and simply find a reason to block the transfer? Perhaps make some comment about players who come in on loan rather than via a permanent and who were previously eligible for the SuperDraft within the last two years must go through allocation, thus meaning we probably fail to bring him in?

Yeah, I don't know. But, for all of the other potential rules skirting that has been floated around this board utilizing ou relationship with Man City, this one actually doesn't seem to break any current MLS rules. I get your point that MLS probably won't be happy about it, but unless they make something up on the spot (which isn't out of the question), I'm not sure there is a whole lot they can do about it.

Now, to throw something else out there....and this is something that I'm unsure on in regards to rules and what not....what if JH really wants to play for NYCFC and only NYCFC? Could Man City sign him, then sell him to us (not loan)????

We don't own our players. MLS does. MCFC can transfer whoever, they want to MLS but MLS can then send him to whatever team they want.

MLS already has a restriction in place that has been discussed here. Loans to MLS teams from related teams get carried on MLS books at the player's full salary, even if the loaning team pays part or even most of it. So Harrison would only agree to do this if he were desperate to play for NYCFC at the MLS rookie scale wage subject to the salary cap. Why he would agree to that I don't know. Or we could do it at his preferred salary and take a massive cap hit. That makes little sense either. If he wants to play in MLS and make more than rookie wages, he should sign a GA contract. If he wants to make more than that, sign overseas.

I don't think this is right. You're telling me MLS could have assigned Facey and Angelino to any team they wanted?
I can't keep up with the complexity of MLS rules, but I am pretty sure I remember some type of rule that allows us to receive MCFC players directly on loan without having to go through the whole distribution process. Exactly what the rules are well.....i've been trying to focus more on who actually is on our roster and supporting them because I can't keep up with the league's rules. I truly can't wait for the league to grow to a level in which we are stable enough to simplify a bunch of these rules. I know many of them make plenty of sense at this time, but they suck for fans to follow!

There is one, yes. My point was that I can absolutely see MLS taking that rule away (or at least, excluding Harrison from it) in the exact same arbitrary way in which they gave it to us in the first place. I mean, after all, what us manipulating this rule in order to force his signature would be doing would essentially be laughing in MLS' face and giving them the middle finger as we say "yeah, we're just going to do what we want". I can't see them taking them lying down.

Loans are different.
This whole discussion is about a loan.

I was replying to SoupInNYC's post in which he said:

No they can't.

MLS holds the contract but that's it. MCFC loans the player to the team in MLS acoording to MCFC and player's wishes. If they loan him to NYCFC the full salary hits NYCFC's salary budget - if they loan him to any other MLS team they can negotiate how much the cap hit will be.

I was not talking about loans.
