#StartEirik

Josh Saunders is this year's Ned Grabavoy. Ned took up the starting spot of everyone we wanted to start, Poku. Josh is taking up the starting spot of everyone we want to start, Eirik.

Ok, over/under. Eirik starts 1 regular season match this season.

I'm starting to think if he doesn't get one start by June, he's not with us for the 2nd half of the season.

I think he got that from a direct interview, but not sure.

Crooks said that PV's comments made him believe that Eirik would start one of the next two games. That was Crooks implying something that PV said. We'll find out soon!

I thought Josh was decent last night but you can tell his defenders don't trust him with the ball.

A 25 year old back up since 2011 who never really got more than a one off chance to start now leads the league in save percentage after 4 games in net.

Jake Gleeson has been a stud for Portland after their GK Kwarasey went down.

But backups are obviously backups for a reason and there's no chance they could be an improvement over the starter right? o_O

Last night before my 3 year old went to sleep, we went through our usual nighttime routine of playing soccer in his room (I know, not the customary bedtime activity). He usually likes to play goalie and announces which players we will be, usually assigning me Mix, Pirlo, David Villa, or Poku, last night it was Tommy Mac, and always declaring himself Josh Saunders (if not David de Gea). But last night, he said to me "daddy, tonight I want to be Joe Handsome." Confused for a moment, I responded "who?" And he said, "you know, the other goalie you told me about." Johansen is now Joe Handsome in our household, and maybe a sign that his time will come.

Love this. Excellent job trying to channel karma in his direction. I'm also glad that other people's bedtime routines have the same tinge of charming absurdity as those in our house!

I know Gleeson has had some great saves, but he had some pretty bad mistakes on Saturday that cost Portland points.

Vieira very clear on #Saunders: "There's no doubt about Josh at all, at all, at all, and there's no debate for me."

It looks like PV is comfortable with Saunders. That may or may not change. No harm in questioning or preferring on our part, but I will still fully support Saunders, warts and all, if he's our keeper, and hope that others will keep most of the heckles on the web (other than the Howler Exception, in which case contemporaneous heckles are appropriate).

At least Lurch got another nickname in the interim. #JoeHandsome
