Put this in the "probably a expansion draft candidate" category:

CB Austin Berry, former rookie of the year, is now a backup at Philly. Expansion Draft pick for Orlando/NYC?

AfricanFootball.com can exclusively reveal today that besides MLS side New York City FC, Nigeria youngster Kelechi Iheanacho is wanted by several other clubs after he shone at Manchester City.

“New York City FC in the MLS is a possibility, but there are several other clubs who have come on board since after what he showed in America.”

The source mentioned an opening in Belgium for the young forward, among other possibilities.

Manchester City starlet urged not to make MLS loan move

According to reports, one of the ways Manchester City plan on developing the Nigerian star striker is to send him on-loan during the upcoming season.

But such a move is something that ex-Nigeria coach Samson Siasia is dearly against. He believes that his compatriot should not be shipped off to MLS, with the former Super Eagles boss insisting City should loan him to an EPL side so they can track his progress more accurately.

“I don’t think it is right for Manchester City to send the young man on loan to MLS, the best they should do for him now is to loan him to an English Premier League side where they will be able to monitor his progress. Iheanacho has done well in the pre season tour and he should be vying for a place in the squad."

Someone ought to share with ol' Samson that if city really cares, they'll keep this kid miles away from Nigeria's shit set up.

I wonder what "list" NYCFC is working off of to loan from? Does Pelligrini take a look at his MCFC U-21s, cross out all but his 4 worst players and hand the list to Jason? If so, I'd rather take ZERO players on loan.

No, he probably crosses out all but the best ones. English football is really struggling at the moment with youth players not being given enough opportunities to transition into senior football. The FA keeps trying to come up with new and "exciting" competitions for them, designed to give them experience of actually competitive matches, but everyone knows it's not good enough. Any chance to loan the best talents out to a club where they can be assured of playing for a team which coaches and plays in the same style (because sending players to a kick-and-run style team will not help them, etc) can only be a good thing as far as they are concerned.

The following are likely to be unavailable:
- Players with wages over the wage cap
- Players with roles in the first team
- Players with better loan options (Top 5 European leagues)

(and possibly players who aren't ready for first team exposure/too young)

But thats the point, coach Siasia. If MC loan him to another EPL team he sets the bench. If he moves to NYC he actually plays. Which is more important to you?

I agree with Kjbert, I feel more and more MC will only send Kreis the leftovers. However just the fact that the Nigerian NT coach is concerned must mean there was some indication that Iheanacho was moving to the US. Thats good news.

Once again, I don't think City will send "left-overs" but I think that
A. The best city youngsters will have DP wages. i.e Marcos Lopes, Emyr Huws, Bruno Zuculini.
B. Some players are very close to the first team squad and need Premier League/La Liga loans (mainly the same players + Guidetti, Denayer, Rekik and possibly Leigh)
C. Some players need more time in the academy and aren't ready for first team football
D. Some players may not want to live so far away for 6 months or a year (again, likely to be the same players as C)
E. Some players are not good enough.

This makes it difficult to find players that don't fit into these catagories, but the likes of Iheanacho, Angelino, Maffeo, Donyoh, Boateng, Bytyqi, Ntcham, Byrne, Ambrose, Kwakwa, Fofana, Manu Garcia, Hiwula and Bossaerts are all potential signings. Kreis will have his pick from a list of players, and he will have to decide if they are good enough or not, having seen them in training for a year/scouted them out on loan.

Once again, if you eliminate 90% of the potentials, only thing left is to send the scraps. Waste of International slots if that's the case.

It's the same thing we have been talking about here since we first saw him play. He's a great young player and would love to see him play for us. Along with many other U-21's from MCFC.
Just like with the Xavi rumors we just need to sit back and wait to hear from the club. The second they say something about an announcement we know hey it's a player and probably one of the ones we have been talking about.

I'm nervous the loanees we get are only locked into staying half the season. We better not lose top loanees back to MCFC in August/Sept.

Not really, I've just given you a list of players who are both (probably) available and MLS standard. They are not scraps. These are just players who, at their current level of development, are well suited to MLS level. There are plenty of gems at city, and if nycfc want to take a couple then great. But:
A. NYCFC have no obligation to take players on loan from MCFC
B. These are MCFC players so will only leave on their terms (e.g. they will need to play)

New rule proposal: if you don't want us to get the best available players, don't fucking post.

We're not your farm team. .

If good players are sent here, yeah, it'll be good for your team. But I for one want the opinions of this forum to reflect those of people who want NYCFC to win, not what is best for a team I personally don't care about.
