Jon Lewis US U-20 thread

Question for you - I assume we are missing a bunch of folks in that age group because this isn't a FIFA window.

Would guys like Zelalem, CCV, Perez and Wright play in the U-20 World Cup? They're not going to be on the senior roster right now.

EDIT: Falastur can speak about this better than I can but I've read that some English folks want to see their U-23 stars play in the U-23 Euros this summer. Guys like Ross Barkley who are fringe senior team members.
Pogba played in it while he was a starter.

It's a big deal. We should play any of them released.

Clubs 99% of the time will release for the U20 WC, but an example that comes to mind is Andrija Novacavich for us at the last WC. Reading would not release him because he appeared ready for the first team.

Follow-up question - I know there are games during the MLS season. Are they also during the European calendar?

How'd that work out?

I think he played 2 or 3 matches before he got injured and then never really made it back into the squad, if my memory serves me. He is just 20 though, and Reading is in contention to get promoted so its not like their squad is talentless at striker.

Well then kol hakavod. You can have all the credit. If it's been used 3 times today, it's a thing.
I don't dig it. Dumbass college announcer does that to like every other player. Even Terence Watson. Yeah, he really did that. It's a joke, but a true one.

Ruined that nickname formula for me.

Its hard to believe this was the same team that lost to 10 man Panama and only took 2 shots or whatever it was. I wasn't going to watch games Lewis wasn't playing but was watching on my phone any way. The team looked good. We see wins against Mexico, but usually we are absorbing pressure and scoring on counters. We pressured them and they had very few chances and not a ton of meaningful possession -- especially in the second half.

I am worried Tab Ramos is going to become Jill Ellis on the Men's side where he gets a good reputation as a coach with wins that happen in spite of the poor coaching.

Lewis needs to be training with NYCFC and Villa so he puts away those 1 v keeper. Scuffed a gimme against SKV last game too. El Salvador is going to have trouble defending free kicks with our height advantage. I think we are going to the finals.

Honestly I typed it tongue in cheek (when do I not?). Then the NYCFC scout/Akron coach/Jlew himself/Mark Booth repeated it, so I figured let's use it. Then LionNYC LionNYC comes along claiming credit, so I figured there's a desire for it and who am I to stand in the way? I'm sure if we watch him play enough a better, more aprapos nickname will come about.

Speaking of Jonathan he plays again on Friday. It'll be interesting to see if he flys to Orlando or New York and meets up with the team after the game. I'd imagine he doesn't go to Orlando because he hasn't been with the team at all.

We win on Friday and play in the Final 3/5 -- maybe even make the final with out the win.

He may go to the match, but he will in all likelihood be preparing for the title game if things play out as expected from here.

Side note, I want to give Tab credit for actually outcoaching Mexico's coach. Now, I think he should have done it a bit differently personnel-wise, but the pressure game we threw at Mexico has them on their heels the whole game. It's nuts to think we played a Mexico team and barely let them get the ball out of their half, much less a chance. They literally created nothing. Not one single SOG.

EPB is going to be a Champions League center back, but he and Adams bossed the midfield last night. Yes, our neighbors have quite a good young player with Tyler. His ceiling is probably MLS All Star, mid-table big 5 league player, maayyybe JJJ levels at the tip top, but his floor isn't too far from that just judging where he is now.

I still think Lewis should have started, but DLT did chew up the defense quite a few times, even if his final ball was mostly always shite.

I could be wrong, but I think Mexico had their A team. We, on the other hand, have a B team at the very best. Probably 4 guys on this squad start for the best u20 team we could have, and most would be in different positions.

Ebobisse definitely wouldn't start, unless Tabbed (Wright). I'd have Adams in there partnering Zelalem and Gaines. Pulisic in front and Wright up top. Perez on the right. Still leaving Taitague and Akale on the bench there.

Fossey keeps his place. EPB and CCV at CB. Klinnsman is just ehhh - think he's Tabbed, unfortunately. Quid pro quo for Tab getting this job.

Left back is anyone but Acosta. Still don't know why Nelson didn't get the nod. He was entirely adequate in the last u17 cycle.

There are a couple of dual nats that could come into play, as well, I think. Kai Koreniak isn't Dutch-tied at this level is he?

Anyway, point is, this team could make a lot of noise if we let them.

I am really surprised how inadequate Ebobisse has been this tournament. Its one thing to be neutralized by Mexico or Panama, but he wasn't able to get anything going against St Kitts or Haiti either.

He's good but overrated. There is a reason he couldn't find a team in Europe (he was looking mainly Belgium and Denmark) and also a reason he fell to fourth in the Super Draft
