Atlanta Postmatch

They showed an even better shot looking down the line later in the broadcast that clearly showed half his foot over the line. I'm interested to see if it comes up in the MLS weekly ref review thing that Simon Borg guy does.

His foot was way over the line, the only question is whether his heel caught the line, supposedly if any part of the foot is on the line it is legal. Seems strange to me as I learned that your foot needs to be behind the line, not that the entire foot could be over and you touch the line with your heel.

But yeah, it deserves a review.

Hard to say, but in my unwavering & highly biased opinion, his toes are over the line. I'd red card the guy for even attempting the subterfuge.

Seriously though, I've seen refs all too often miss the trailing foot raised off the ground, so to miss his toes is easier to accept. Just sucks that it led to a ridiculous laser of a shot/goal. Kinda feel like that event lit a fire under the team's ass, or at least got PV to give a passionate French pep talk in the locker room of viva Le France, errr, viva Le NYCFC

Interesting.

I am hardly a guy who thinks it makes sense to be a stickler for precision on throw ins. But, when you are attempting a long throw into the box, any little deviation from the rules can lead to an important advantage. Players need to be 100% by the book on those plays.

Both feet need to be on the line or outside of it. If your foot is over the line, it is a foul throw in.

I'm all for 100% for any play. Can't stand the encroachment on free kicks. Yellow for you, and yellow for you, and yellow for you!

Foot can be on the line. It cannot be over the line. You be the judge.

I'm confused. You say his foot is allowed to be on the line. Later you say half his foot is over as if that's a problem but to be on the line implies half over.

By on the line do you mean that the front of his toes can touch but not go over?

Maxi's goal was a kind of crazy when you think about SJ going LONG LONG and Villa heading it to Rod, and the touch to Maxi, yadda yadda. That's really one of the first headers I've seen Villa make that fall up field.

Right. The player's foot can be on the line, but no part of his foot can be over it onto the playing side.

ETA: Now that I am going and looking to source the rule, it seems that perhaps the rule is that some part of each foot has to be on some part of the touchline (or behind it), but that you can otherwise be over. So, if even a millimeter of your heel is on the line, but the rest of your foot is in the field of play, that's okay.

If that's the case, then the throw was legal.

Also, bad by the ATL CBs. Both went for the ball, and yet both lost to Villa, and then were out of position and allowed Maxi to get behind.

I hope McNamara is traded for GAM or TAM. We don't know what we need yet. I'm not convinced that we need a RB right now that's already in MLS. I think we need to answer a few questions first:

1) How long is Herrera here?
2) Does Pirlo leave this summer?
3) Is Jonathan Lewis going to help us this season or not?
4) Is Matarrita gone this summer or this winter?

I think the club wants more roster and cap flexibility. If Herrera is gone this summer, then maybe you go out and buy a guy like Tony Tchani. Or you use GAM/TAM to bring in the South African kid. If Jonathan Lewis isn't going to be part of the plans this season, maybe we can absorb a contract on a half year loan. If Pirlo is gone, we do miss depth and a creative player in the midfield.

Why do we think Herrera might leave us sooner? I thought it was discussed elsewhere that it will be a while before he can join MCFC due to the rules?

Otherwise, I think you bring up very valid points. I would love to upgrade at RB, but it isn't glaring right now, and as you mentioned, we may need to end up using funds elsewhere on the pitch based on transfers out, injuries, etc.

He had two good games so everything thinks he's gone now. It's not like he would be leaving to start for MCFC. I don't know why they would pull him from us mid-season just to send him somewhere else.

Lewis is a Generation Adidas player, his contract doesn't affect our salary charge. Same with Harrison.

We were worried they were going to take Poku to MCFC, why wouldn't they pull back their own loanee

Well he can't play in the EPL unless he starts enough for the Venezuelan National Team, right? I don't remember exactly what it was, but he's not close to fulfilling that requirement, so he couldn't play for MCFC. Whereas with the speculation around Poku, as ridiculous as it was, he actually would have been able to play over there.

So the only option CFG would have is to rescind his loan to us, in order to loan him somewhere else.

This was easily the best performance I have seen from the team. Also, the energy that we showed most likely signals the beginning of the end for Pirlo. He has been a fantastic player, but he hasn't got the legs for the MLS. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Awuah given the nod in the next game.

Was wondering what your take on our play without Pilro would be. Not surprised you are more concerned about what I type, lol.

Unfortunately I've missed the last 3 matches because I moved into a new house but it sounds like the team is playing better without Pirlo starting.

MLS is a very different animal than Serie A. And that's putting it nicely. Clearly, Pirlo is not the same insane talent he once was.

But I still find it incredibly weird that you would say that Pirlo doesn't care this year

Do you seriously think this guy is playing for a paycheck?

Well you being you, you probably do believe that.
