2017 Roster Discussion

I can't remember Zusi last night and if he even played since their left wing seemed to surge down that side at will

Idk how you can't remember Zusi from that performance. He was even in my nightmares last night.

I get your point though. I am not saying it is definite thing. Just maybe. Also, gotta think that of all the Hearts games K Kjbert watched last season, a Slovenien defender was probably the least on his mind as a future NYC player.

Good point. I was watching for Kitchen or because they played Celtic

Seems like they struggled pretty hard to put this list together

Lol:

10. Currently, Andraz and Slovenia are just six points out of the top spot in UEFA World Cup Qualifying Group F. They have 11 points, while England sit atop the group with 20.

False. They won two days ago and now have 14 points (to England's 20). Weird that they have England's updated point total, but not Slovenia's.

One question about the current team is who is slotted to substitute in the Back 4 if there is an injury during the game?

I am sure Patrick has a plan and has been training some emergency defenders in case it becomes necessary.

Right now, we've got 4 defenders healthy: 2 fullbacks (Sweat, RJ) and 2 center backs (Callens and Freddie B). If one of those guys goes down, someone who doesn't usually play defense will have to play the back line.

Of course, if Struna gets his visa in time, then he's the first off the bench.

If Struna is not available, it may depend upon the position needed. If Sweat is injured, maybe Wallace moves back. If it's Allen, maybe Harrison or Shelton move back, or Wallace moves back and Sweat switches sides.

If a centerback gets hurt, then maybe Awuah is the guy, but it could also be that Wallace moves back and Sweat moves to the middle.

It's also possible that Sands has been training as the emergency CB replacement, which is why he didn't play in the midfield last game. However, on SITC, Crooks and Abramowitz seemed to think Patrick was ready to play Sands in midfield if the starters struggled.

Sands plays CB at age levels, no?

I can't imagine Sands is big enough to play as a CB against the pros. I get it against kids his age group, but not against the men.

I feel like I remember hearing that Sweat was the emergency CB.

I wonder if Ring would move back if we needed a CB.

Yes, I think Sweat is probably the first emergency CB, so I think any injury likely involves Wallace moving back. If the injury isn't Sweat, he moves and plays in place of whomever comes out.

That raises the question of what the plan might have been for the last game since Wallace wasn't available.

I agree that Sands is not a CB for us, but he might have been the pick in an emergency situation.

I think most guys on the team could dual train for their usual position and as an emergency defender, but I am not sure you do that with Sands; it's likely one or the other with him.

Pretty sure that's why we had all three keepers in the 18 on Wednesday, no? Or in the 17, maybe.

All three keepers were in the 17. There was no plan except to pray no one got hurt.

White will slide into the CB role if he's on the field and a CB goes down, but I think we're so thin Sweat takes it. White started as a CB.

Yes, White has that flexibility, but he is one of the guys hurt.

We had 4 defenders on the roster Wednesday. Same will be true Saturday if Struna didn't get his visa.

There was a moment very early in the SKC game when Freddie went down hurt and got up limping. Sphincters were tight.

I love Rodney and his two-way play, but I still hop we pick up a DP-level LW in the winter. He's great for rotation, and certainly someone we'll want to hold onto, but he's not providing enough offensively. I wonder if he can slide into one of the midfield roles if we lose Herrera and/or Ring. There too much we could be getting from the left side that we've been missing with Wallace in the lineup.
