NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

so if someone is in our affiliate and goes to college.....do we lose homegrown rights to him?

if someone in our academy goes to college .....do we also lose homegrown rights as well?

Affiliate not sure though unlikely since that's how we tried to claim Jack Harrison as a homegrown, our academy 100% yes.

I thought the problem with Jack was that we tried to sign him when already signed with Generation Adidas.

No, the problem was that he was part of our affiliate BEFORE the affiliate club was affiliated with NYCFC. He never player for the affiliate after they joined up. Hence, no HG.

So than why is Carleton an ATL player?

I don't know Carleton's story, but Atlanta literally bought/took over/absorbed the entire independent club, that Carleton was part of, into their academy so they didn't have to start from scratch. I can only assume that MLS viewed it as the before/after status of the youth setup never changed.

With us, we have a bunch of affiliates, but none of them are actually our official academy. If NYCFC simply absorbed Harrison's club as their own from day 1, without starting a separate NYCFC academy like they did, then we probably could have signed Harrison to a HG.

Will Sands is a top player in his own right. Will play professionally.

Atlanta started an Academy (took control of?) before they were in existence. We should have done that and we didn't.

I don't think so on either account. Case in point: Ian Harkes went to Wake Forest for a year and then got signed to D.C. as a HG player.

Another example. Jordan Morris.

Atlanta assumed controlled of Georgia United's U16 and U18 teams in 2015. Carleton accrued the training time needed and Atlanta was able to sign him as a homegrown. Affiliates don't count anymore. Academy teams need to be technically controlled by a MLS team to count for HGP training time.

Maybe someone with kids or those who know the academy system better put I don't think that our regular season is difficult. Our academy teams play an age under so U19 is actually a U17/18 team. However, we're the MLS academy in the area so player on our team are recruited to play because they want to make it in MLS. Other academies may be more local and have players that aren't MLS ambitious.

So our best games are during tournaments playing other professional academies.

Bruce needs to call Gio up to save his ass.

Has a non-professional player played for the USMNT?

Ask I wrote this question, I realized that Jordan Morris played during his Stanford time.

Now, a better question, has the USMNT called up a player who isn't professional and below college age?

When did Freddy Adu get his first shot?

I'm sticking with my prediction of a professional contract for Gio next June/July. If all goes well, he's off to Europe by 18 with a season and a half of MLS experience under his belt already.

EDIT: I mean Europe by 17. Hopefully Bundesliga.
