2018 Roster Discussion

I don't love the Stoke move for him. Teams in relegation battles aren't known for playing front foot football. If he was a Striker, I would feel differently. But he's going to be stuck behind Shaqiri anyway.

But I'm happy for him and I'll root for him. My brother is a Stoke supporter and I'm sure he'll enjoy watching him in the Championship next season.

2) Does anyone feel confident that Jonathan Lewis/Ismael Toujari equal Jack Harrison production? I don't.

I'd say neither meet his potential but either could match his production especially if we are talking about his production at the end of the season.

1) The way I read the rules, we could use his acquisition fee to cover the cost of the Medina transfer. We could then pay down Medina's contract with TAM (bad idea though since he only is on the cap for $150k)

2) Does anyone feel confident that Jonathan Lewis/Ismael Toujari equal Jack Harrison production? I don't.

3) Assuming 1 and 2 are true, Jo IngeBerget needs to produce immediately.

Have to think the frontline becomes Medina-Villa-Berget with Harrison gone. Maybe Lewis gets more opportunities, too.

I think Medina is the replacement for Harrison, the comparison is Wallace vs Tajouri/Lewis. And the way Wallace tailed off in the second half, I think that's a more likely comparison.

I guess the question is:

Wallace-Villa-Harrison
Or
Medina-Villa-Berget

Which provides more goals

FYI sounds like Almiron is 50/50 to be gone too. 99/1 he's gone by summer. Per twitter.

Yeah, all Almiron talks about is “Europe” and how he is going there soon. I get it, he’s not going to be in Atlanta forever, but the quotes on Twitter are really with one foot out the door.

The thing about Harrison, he’s probably up to $7M now. Say he stays in MLS and absolutely kills it, will his valuation go that much higher after another year?

The offer is real, he’s got to weigh what might be a small upside (kill it this year and then go) vs lots of potential downsides: injury, playing time goes down, slump, etc. I can see him taking it now, but would really love to have him one more year.

In the current transfer market world, especially England’s landscape, $6M is a crap offer. Harrison is English, personable, interviewable, on their youth national team, has shown remarkable improvement in 1+ (Healthy) season under Vieira, and has a huge upside if CM is where Vieira sees his future. He really should be getting bigger offers from better teams, and another season playing next to Villa will only help his stock.

Yeah, we'd only get 1/2 of the transfer fee this year compared to 2/3 next year. But half of the reported $4.5m fee would give us $650k GAM that could buy down Medina this season and leave $1.6m applicable toward a new DP.

As for Harrison's place in the Stoke squad, he'd compete for a backup spot with Berahino and Ngoy. It'd be an ambitious move for him but I'm sure he'd jump at the chance.
He will chewed up and spit out. Not good enough to stand out on a shit team like stoke. Poor decision.

Or maybe just it to trade for those international roster spots we need. $75K GAM each for 3, leaves us with $425K which is plenty to be creative and sign someone else while avoiding going over the cap.

We've seen Medina on the RW in highlights. He would fill in there. Tinnerholm at RB. And everything else stays the same. The other new signings fight for spots, or maybe a formation change if Vieira think it's merited.

NYCFC Front Office is finally playing 4D chess.
Bullshit. You don’t sign dice roll players and sell your 2nd best attacker.

This is fucked. And it’s super fucked for Jack. He’s going to rot on the bench for 6 months in the EPL then get his legs cracked in the championship for a long time, cuz stoke ain’t coming up soon.

Rumors going around that Stoke is after Jack Harrison. With all the depth we brought in at winger I'd say the club prepared for selling him this window. I wouldn't mind it either, he's English so we'd get a good price for him. We could put all that GAM to good use.
Great. When and on what players? In the summer on some LigaMX Benchwarmers or some shitbirds playing in Scandinavia? Because that always works well.

I have no confidence that the team would be able to replace Harrison's production. He was our second leading goalscorer. You can always cobble it together, but we get ZERO goals out of our midfield.

We missed Lampard's production last season. Harrison stepped up, but no one else did.

We didn't add a goalscorer to midfield like I wanted. We essentially play with a double pivot and a 5'3" #10 who is afraid to put the ball on target.

So considering we didn't replace Lampard's production and Jack was our #2 goalscorer last year, that leaves A LOT of question marks in the final third going into this season. No bueno

Maybe since MLS fucked us after talking to USSF to talk to CONCACAF about our 2019 CCL qualification, maybe they'll let us get away with more GAM.
As long as we are speculating, maybe the Harrison transfer fee % to NYCFC issue had something to do with the Hererra loan all of a sudden becoming a 2 year loan. Now is probably not the first time the FO has raised the issue with MLS. That was weird how Yangel just got to stay with us for another year without any real explanation.
