2018 General MLS Transfer Rumors

Too much logic, you forgot rule #1, if the LAG want to sign a big name there is no need to speculate on how they will do it within the current cap rules because the MLS has proven numerous times that they will change the rules for LAG.

But assuming that's not happening this time, seems like summer is more likely given how the money would work out and the fact that Man U likely wouldn't mind keeping him through the end of the year. With regards to the world cup hasn't he previously announced that he will not play internationally again? Granted that was before they qualified so he could always go back on it.
LAG is about to get hammered on relevancy once LAFC starts up, much like RB and us, and there’s no way MLS doesn’t bend over backwards to help AEG since they are the original flagship (now sinking) who’s owner propped up the league for so many years. The favoritism is nauseating, and we can only hope they continue to suck even with the addition of Zlat.

Yeah, I know he said that before, but still tough to say that is a definite, especially after they qualified. David Villa retired from international play and he got called up last year and is quoted as being hopeful to be on their WC roster.

I agree, the only good thing is that every time they make a new rule for LAG such as inventing TAM when they wanted Dos Santos and needed a way to buy Gonzalez down, NYCFC also benefits because the team will spend. Could be worse, we could all be stuck cheering for one of the other teams in the league that doesn't sign DPs and wouldn't dare spend a dime of that wasn't given to them by the league.

I am a huge Zlatan fan, and appreciate his superhuman healing abilities, but I can’t imagine the over/under on games played after arrival is more than half. He will fill some seats, be a celeb on the town, and score a few goals, but I doubt he will be a difference maker due to DNP.

He’s going to miss every game on turf. Or he should miss them if he wants to stay out of rehab. That right there knocks down his possible starts/minutes.

Orlando also traded out Kevin Molino for $650K in TAM/GAM a year ago and just sold Larin in a deal that will give them $650 in GAM.

Net for Orlando from all 5 deals
  • TAM going out is $900K
  • GAM coming in is $400K
  • Another $700K of TAM/GAM potentially going out for incentives in Dwyer deal that are "easily achievable"

Orlando is having a very interesting off season. Their roster would crush it in 2010. I wonder if these moves make them any better than Columbus was last season?
They've never made the playoffs. If they finish 4-6 in the East this year these moves were a success. The worry would be that these moves achieve mediocrity but make it harder to climb to the elite, but it's not clear their ownership is willing to spend what that would take anyway. If not, then this is as good a set of moves as one could hope for.

PS: They might even have the right coach for this type of team. Or, at least, he is less obviously unsuited for this type of team as he was for the team NYCFC was/is trying to build.

That incentive TAM is essentially “spoken” for since if stuff is achieved they have to pay out, thus ties their hands in the short term.

They are playing with Fire by sending such latch amounts of TAM out for trades.

Orlando is collecting TAM level domestic players.
  • Dom Dwyer for $900K in TAM/GAM, plus up to another $700K based on incentives
  • Sasha Kljestan for two younger players (ORL also received $150K in TAM)
  • Justin Meram for $1,050K in TAM/GAM, plus an international roster spot

International Roster Spot for the 2019 season.

Just wait until their locker room mutiny takes place.

Dwyer vs. Meram. Who Takes the Penalty Part II.

Where does Meram play in Kreis' system? Is he still playing the 4-4-2 diamond? Does Meram play supporting striker?

I was just thinking the same thing. He could play depper I guess as a right sided midfielder. I know nothing about his willingness to play defense. But there's a big difference between playing RW for Berhalter and RM for Jason Kreis.

Kreis. Once again signing the wrong players for his system. And this time he doesn't have CFG pushing Pirlo on him.

Not only that, but Kreis now doesn’t have the talisman scorer that could literally be marked by 6 people in the box, facing the other direction, with a ball played away from the goal mouth, and would still one touch it for a goal.

Kreis wishes it was 2010 just so he can start this guy...
