I can't wait to see the response when the new stadium is named Etihad Stadium, which in my opinion is a near certainty given CGF's ambitions

For me, that would be slightly disappointing, but much much much less so than this jersey.
Etihad is a company that happens to sponsor MCFC as well as NYCFC. I don't consider that a huge part of identity, as compared to the appearance of the kit.
Thats cool and your entitled to that but dont be surprised if the third kit is something we have seen MCFC wear in the past as well. Also, i wouldnt be shocked if at some point down the line NYCFC debuts a kit that eventually makes it way to MCFC. I think over time these things will go back and forth amongst the teams
This is spot on. People forget that NYCFC is part of a larger thing. So are MC, Melbourne and Yokohama. All of them are part of a larger brand called CFG. They're trying to build a global presence, and have a consistent aesthetic. Don't think of it as the jersey being a clone of MC's, think of it has being a part of the larger CFG brand. MC was just the first club there.
Then why not give NYCFC at least as much uniqueness as they afforded Melbourne City?

I think a big point that we may be overlooking is the fact that CFG sees the US as the growth engine. There isnt a whole lot more they can do to grow the MCFC club. That's usually the case, yes. I was completely expecting a sky blue home jersey up until they sent out the invite for the event, which threw me off. After that I was convinced it would be the navy. Maybe that's the away kit.
The stadium being called Etihad would be a non-issue for me.

Guys..... here is the good news....NYC has its very own MLS club with an awesome grass roots supporter club, owners with big pockets, a great coach and a we begin play this coming March. 4 short months
This is a very good point, and was my first thought when Heart was brought up. However, although we are a blank slate in terms of a soccer club, we are not a blank slate as a city, and there is plenty of tradition to draw from in that regard. Certainly a fair amount of people are unhappy, and I could see a similar bone being thrown here.
No way in hell a new club with a new stadium won't have a corporate sponsor.

I don't know any other color that is not Man City blue. Like an earlier post, when you go down the streets people will confuse our jersey rather for a Manchester City jersey.
