JERSEY RELEASE???

I can't wait to see the response when the new stadium is named Etihad Stadium, which in my opinion is a near certainty given CGF's ambitions
For me, that would be slightly disappointing, but much much much less so than this jersey.

Etihad is a company that happens to sponsor MCFC as well as NYCFC. I don't consider that a huge part of identity, as compared to the appearance of the kit.

Yea, but maybe we are different. We are New York. New Yorkers.

If a support group came out saying they will wear the away jersey instead I would support them, heck even even if the Third Rail said: We are not happy with this and wear the second jersey. I would be like heck yeah! they understand me, and ill join them.

I will support the team because they are local, and NYC but this jersey color, really left a sour taste. For now I will skip buying the home jersey and wait for the second shirt
Thats cool and your entitled to that but dont be surprised if the third kit is something we have seen MCFC wear in the past as well. Also, i wouldnt be shocked if at some point down the line NYCFC debuts a kit that eventually makes it way to MCFC. I think over time these things will go back and forth amongst the teams

I really think we are missing the point, CFG doesnt care that there is backlash, they have a corporate model that isnt going to change. The brand is CFG not MCFC, MCFC fits into the brand and started it but this isnt us trying to be like MCFC its all of the CFG properties being homogenous.

This is spot on. People forget that NYCFC is part of a larger thing. So are MC, Melbourne and Yokohama. All of them are part of a larger brand called CFG. They're trying to build a global presence, and have a consistent aesthetic. Don't think of it as the jersey being a clone of MC's, think of it has being a part of the larger CFG brand. MC was just the first club there.

Are you kidding me? They build a $300 Million stadium and you're disappointed because of the naming rights? You guys kill me

Which is funny because the same thing happened un Melbourne and the following years the jersey was closer to Melbourne Heart and Man City.

Out of curiosity, what color should they wear?

Aren't home jerseys typically the lighter color? I thought away jerseys were usually the darker of the two

I think a big point that we may be overlooking is the fact that CFG sees the US as the growth engine. There isnt a whole lot more they can do to grow the MCFC club. The real growth and new dollars will come from the US, they will not be doing anything to retard the growth of NYCFC, its the future cash cow. When the M
Then why not give NYCFC at least as much uniqueness as they afforded Melbourne City?
I think part of that is Melbourne had a history with the Heart and they threw them a bone to preserve a bit of their past tradition, we on the other hand are a blank slate

That's usually the case, yes. I was completely expecting a sky blue home jersey up until they sent out the invite for the event, which threw me off. After that I was convinced it would be the navy. Maybe that's the away kit.

This is a very good point, and was my first thought when Heart was brought up. However, although we are a blank slate in terms of a soccer club, we are not a blank slate as a city, and there is plenty of tradition to draw from in that regard. Certainly a fair amount of people are unhappy, and I could see a similar bone being thrown here.

The stadium being called Etihad would be a non-issue for me.
I guess we can all argue this for days.
I look forward to the roster building.

No way in hell a new club with a new stadium won't have a corporate sponsor.

Looks like they did.
