Melbourne Heart/city

Have a link?

It's the white kit on this pic from one of their pre-season friendlies a week ago:

The kit isn't 100% confirmed - note no sponsor on there yet for instance - but that's pretty much the design.

And it's no coincidence that it's very similar to Manchester City's third kit from last season, in case anyone was wondering - though it's not totally identical (and I mean more than just the badges being different).

Well if anything this makes the obvious Etihad rumours for NYCFC much more likely. I've suggested a few times that other Abu Dhabi companies could have been selected for exposure. Considering Etihad already has a high presence in Melbourne (they have the other Etihad stadium there after all) it now makes that theory considerably less likely.

So, you're telling me that Soriano, as CEO of CFG, runs the show (so to speak) for MCFC, NYCFC, and Melbourne City FC, correct? I just want to make sure I understand the point you are making. Soriano has the final say with regard to the day-to-day operations of CFG's clubs, yes?

Yes and no.. NYCFC is very much Sorianos baby, if you wanna talk Melbourne you are more likely to find yourself talking to Simon Pearce and Brian Marwood.
But Soriano don´t handle day to day stuff in Melbourne or New York, he just gives a nod now and then.

Soriano is probably even more responsible for NYCFC than Sheikh Mansour who clearly saw the logic when the suggestion was presented to Abu Dhabi. Its no secret he had the idea at Barcelona albeit it in Miami.

Lots of fans on their forum have been commenting that they think he may have been a distraction to their team - apparently even some of the Melbourne City players have made that same assertion. The theory goes that their players spent so long working out how they could best play Villa in - and then worrying when they got it wrong - that their game plan was just falling apart around him every game.

Hi Folks!

Melbourne City supporter here. Thought id sign up and jump in on this topic. Melbourne City's poor start to the season extends beyond Villa but Villa didn't help. Namely his lack of defending. In a 4-3-3 formation wingers need to drop back and defend, and he rarely did this. This left our inexperienced Left Back Iain Ramsay to do most of the work. We repeatedly got exploited by this.

On a side note, I'm looking forward to the unveil tomorrow and im hoping NYCFC update their membership packages to include an international membership. I'll be snapping one up if they become available.

Good point about the Left Wingers; If i'm right didn't Ramsay play Left Mid/Left Wing for Heart last season?

Yes mate spot on. He was a bit inconsistent up front so this season they've converted him to left back. He had a shocker in the Melbourne derby, then they excluded him from the squad against Adelaide. They put him back in against Brisbane last week and he was a little better. That might also be in part to Villa having left

How's Williams doing? I remember he did quite well last year, but haven't heard of him this season. Also, how are the youth players doing, such as Mark Marino is it?

David Williams has scored the once, and to be honest if you poll the opinions of the Melbourne City fans they don't tend to think he was as good as his 12 goals last season suggest. Marc Marino has had a bright start, though, and has already scored his first goal for the club.

I'll let the bona fide Melburnians give you a more detailed response.

Williams has had an injury plagued start to the season and still isnt 100%. He hasnt played a full 90 mins since returning from injury. He's a great player, but has struggled for consistency. Last year was probably his best yet for City/Heart.

He scored a decent goal against Brisbane last week and then missed a couple this week he should have easily put away, so again highlighting he still isnt quite there yet. He'll improve though. Dugandzic has started to find some of his old form which is great to see. I noticed his goal against Brisbane was used in the NYCFC jersey unveil presentation.

Interesting to see, in regards to the bold.

I didn't manage to see the game against Central Coast Mariners at the weekend, did you/we deserve the draw or were they lucky. Has the manager (Van Der Schip? is it?) got a lot of pressure on him, after the poor(ish) start to the season?

Very disappointing draw, we completely dominated the game, and basically had in the bag until the last 10 minutes when CCM got a free kick and scored, then got another one with about 5 seconds left on the clock.

You can watch the highlights here if you're interested: http://www.foxsports.com.au/footbal...-city-in-22-draw/story-e6frf4gl-1227124766018

John Van't Schip or JVS as we normally say. He definitely has a lot of pressure on him but I seriously doubt any brash decisions will be made this season. Maybe if we come last again, otherwise id say they'll give him a one year grace period

Have the Victory fans been giving you loads of stick about CFG and the like? If they have just take it for a few years and after that, when your winning title after title it'll be them who look stupid.

In regards to this season I think you'll get it right eventually, to finish in the playoffs would be a good achievement.

I'm not in Melbourne but I go on a few Australian forums, and the "banter" the Victory fans have been giving out (particularly after the derby) is so similar to what was being thrown at Man City supporters a few years back. Water off a ducks back really, but I think the Victory fans are in for the same sort of shock a few people got when City started winning things. Like a lot of the critics of Man City, I don't think a lot of the Victory fans can see it coming. Which makes it even nicer.
