Not sure why the original thread for the 2022 WC is locked. So, figured I’d start another.

Who could have seen this coming?

TLDR Official statement: Israelis allowed. Egyptians banned. LGBTQ allowed, but not allowed to show affection in public. Does that mean kissing? Handholding? A warm caress? Whatever it is, it’s bullshit and none of the major sponsors want to comment on it.

Past time to pull the tournament from them. They haven’t delivered on one thing promised. Not taking place in the summer. No climate controlled stadiums. Xenophobic & homophobic tourist policies.

So the US had to pull out of it's upcoming Qatar camp due to security risks following the killing of a Qatari allied terrorist leader.
Shitshow is an apt name for this thread. I project a last minute cancellation of this tournament and a hastily rescheduled tournament.

"Qatari allied"
???
For the last few years Qatar has been strengthening ties with Iran and Turkey while its relations with former allies Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt and Bahrain have deteriorated.

They also (allegedly - if you believe them) didn’t realize they bailed out Kushner at 666 Fifth of his Armageddon-type mortgage.

They’re playing both sides and are now caught in the middle.

USMNT pulled out of Qatar for its January camp for geopolitical reasons. Maybe the same will happen with the 2022 World Cup.

We try to keep politics out of sports, but it's always impossible to do so. We all know political discussion on forums can get ugly, so let's just be respectful to each other when discussing these matters. - LionMod.

On a personal note, I'm quite worried about what's happening in Iran/Iraq/Middle East more so than who is the next NYCFC coach.

I get all that, but saying that Suleimani is a “Qatar ally” overstates things considerably.
He has frequently traveled via Qatar and the Quds were frequently aided by Qatar. They knew him, they supported him, he supported them.

I thought that, but unless they change it back to regular summer months, it may go further south somewhere, or maybe Asia to keep it in the confederation.

I think they will change it to summer because euro leagues will want that. I mean im sure they pissed already that its gonna be november-december. maybe australia still wants it, since they did bid for it originally.

I am thinking about taking my kid out to Qatar for a few days for some World Cup Group Stage games. I need to try and price this out and see if it can be done within budget.

Does anyone know of any travel firms or other resources that handle this kind of thing?
