really seems like yankee ownership stake in the club is ending ... such a huge announcement for the club and zero yankee representation and zero yankee recognition from any of their social media channels.

good riddens.

but i'm curious how the next 4 years will go while we are still technically homeless.
We'll see. Status quo is a very powerful thing.

People keep saying this. What's the evidence?

no evidence. just speculation based on (for me) - lack of acknowledgement by the yankees, lack of yankee ownership/representation at the announcement.

others pointed to the "original" comment by the VP during the announcement.

not saying it is the case, but that it has that feeling, at least for me, and i hope it is true.

Probably a lot more matches at Citi & RBA

I'd imagine at this point they'd be quite content to sit on their 20 percent and take the distributions. Which, personally speaking, is fine by me. As long as they don't have any operational role and they're cut out of the stadium project I'm cool with them quietly taking their money and keeping their noses out of everything.

And maybe one day they sell it to Jeff Bezos or someone for a huge profit. As long as they have zero input cool w me. Sit back in your corner and shut your trap you damn Yankees!

So Carton and Roberts spent a ton of time talking about the stadium today on WFAN (you can listen on the audacy site/app). Interesting take, they were really happy for NYCFC and soccer in the city in general but then went on this long rant about how the Jets are still in NJ. And that they can get out of their lease in 2025. Just putting this out there. There a A LOT more Jets fans then there are NYCFC fans, and with $750mm already pledged & the project approve could the Johnsons offer $1B more to make it an 80k seat stadium with retractable roof and field like Tottenham? Kenny Kenny are you violating your NDA with a quick Yes or No answer to this possibility?

Personally I don’t think the Jets go anywhere, especially after building that training facility in NJ when they left Hofstra. But it makes a lot of sense to hitch their wagon to an approved project and add extra cash.

They had an interview with Marty Edelman, who said the approval process will take 12-16 months, then people have four months to raise an opposition. They think they can get shovels in the ground in 16 months.

Missed that part of the show. Need to find it myself now

That's what I knew about, so I guess we just read the tea leaves differently. Myself, I understood the "original" comment to be a positive acknowledgment, as in "with us from the beginning." And they've always been mostly silent partners who don't show up for mini-pitch openings, or City Hall MLS cup celebrations, etc. Honestly I think they would have been booed if they were there today. I think it's an investment for them, and one they're happy to keep owning.

Randy Levine was at the City Hall celebration.

My guess is we're going to play more home games at Citi Field, and maybe sprinkle in a few games at YS every year. Maybe 12 at Citi, 5 at YS. Something like that wouldn't surprise me.
Agree. Flip the script and build queens fan base. Maybe even down to 2-1 at YS by 2025 and a final goodbye game with chicken buckets for everyone. Only RBA when no other option.

yea i took the "original" comment as having that meaning as well. it could have been interpreted positively or negatively. just depends how you feel about the yankees. their lack of representation and acknowledgement had more meaning to me.

fair point that they may have been booed had they showed up today, but to not even mention it on their twitter seems strange as a part owner.

Of course, if it is their intent to be completely hands off and just make their money, that's fine by me too, like others have said. I don't want any of their input or influence on the new stadium services and concessions.

did anyone ask if there will be pre-game empanadas available at the new stadium? Along with bricks and chicken buckets this is an important issue.

Does Randy Levine hate NYCFC and the Mets enough to buy the stadium's naming rights? Only time will tell...
That would be the most NY thing ever. Yankee Field right next to Citi Field.

Huh, forgot that. It doesn't change my analysis, which is mostly based on the assumption that the Yanks will hold or sell based on business/financial considerations, and not on some petulant disappointment that NYCFC decided to build near the Mets. And on that point, if the yanks really wanted NYCFC to settle near them, they would have found a way to make it happen. It came pretty close, they scuttled it for other reasons, and I think it's pretty clear they don't care, but they do care about the bottom line and this club is a very appreciating asset. It does not make sense to sell now.
