Having, what we're assuming, David Villa at 100% can't be stressed enough. Few games this year will he not be the best player on the field, especially at full health. Reading all the previews this week, many noted his five shots in ~35-40 mins vs. possibly the best team in the league, granted he wasted a heartbeat's amount of time in an easy tap-in in the middle of the second half.
He's our best opportunity to score, but he's also our best opportunity to make a critical first pass. Like we saw during the Philly game, he passes and cuts. And while he didn't get the through ball immediately, he still found the net at the end of the sequence. It's exactly like he NER home opener. He made the initial pass, made a beautiful run that required a simple pass and placed a simple, perfect shot.
It stinks, because I don't want to be that team that relies too heavily on one player, BUT when that player is a year removed from scoring in the World Cup and in the Champions League Final, he must be the first option in those kinds of plays. He's still sneaky, and even if he doesn't have that shot on goal, he's got the ability to play the ball across goal. Hopefully, that's where Shelton will find his first goal of the season, beating his man. As someone who's played in arguably the best and fiercest derby, the onus will be on him to really set the tone and take the bull by the horns.
