2018 General MLS Transfer Rumors

It would be perfect MLS if another team put Gonzalez on their MLS allocation list. AFAIK nothing prevents this. Atlanta has ROFR against the world, with respect to a sale by his current team. That doesn't mean they own his MLS rights.
I had already thought about that and figured the Atlanta brain trust can be so bumbling that they didn’t lay claim to his MLS rights via the discovery list. I think their move was more to beat out other world clubs. But my scenario is more a big FU to the rest of MLS since a team can only have 5(?) discovery claims. CFG can sign a thousand players and warehouse them with loans while screwing NYCFC’s competition.

Our nightmare continues as soon as Marchisio starts underperforming as the Juvesplainers show up to enlighten us all about our soccer ignorance: "Well you see Marchisio is amazing but the club and PV are idiots with how they use him. If they had any clue first they would get Pirlo and then flank Pirlo only with players like Vidal and Pogba. Only once Pirlo is properly protected such that he can send his one of a kind passes to Marchisio is it even remotely reasonable to start expecting any goals. Until those exact conditions are met anyone that even thinks to question that some skill erosion may be at play is a complete tactical buffon that needs to watch more Serie A to truly appreciate soccer."

Pleeeease lol. How can you still be whining about Pirlo? He's gone bro, get over it. Soccer ignorance isn't saying that a player with better talent around them would be better. That's fact for any player. Actually Pirlo was flanked by Vidal & Marchisio while Pogba played CAM during that time..but that's just semantics. I've been a Juve supporter for a long time. Maybe the only real one on this forum, so you must be speaking of me in your diatribe. You didn't read me say anything like that. He was slow and deteriorating while still on Juve. In another post I said Marchisio has slowed down and been injuried lately. He's not the same player as he was. Doesn't mean he's not a good player though. My soccer ignorance you speak of would probably say that NYCFC couldn't beat Juve's bench squad playing a man down lol.

Saphir Taider signing with Montreal as a DP. He's a very good younger midfielder with a lot of potential still. Can play both ways. Should help them for the next few years.

Was just having a bit of fun, didn't mean to make it seem like I was targeting you in anyway, apologies if it came off that way. I respect your posts and I agree that you were never in the crowd that would rant about the team not being set up the right way for him in response to people complaining about him wasting free kicks.

No worries, I was having a bit of fun back.

Minnesota looking like MLS 1.0. Don't want to pay 1.9 million for a year of Asad as a DP.
We should have paid it. That dude is nails, and we know he can play striker if needed. Gives us a starting winger and sub striker. Oh, and he creates a fair amount, too.

Fml.

I gave Minnesota a pass at the start of last season when they had no DPs because their entry was expedited -- rushed even -- and I thought their explanation that they wanted to take their time was credible. Now it's obvious they just don't want to spend money, in a league where that is increasingly becoming a recipe for guaranteed mediocrity at best.

This really undermines MLS's credibility in choosing expansion partners, though it also highlights the trade-offs. There were alternatives in Minnesota. MLS chose an existing lower division team with history and passionate fanbase and committed to building a SSS over creating a new team with an owner who wanted to share a football stadium but also would, I'm quite certain, have spent considerably more on talent. It's arguably defensible to choose the former, but only if the vetting process demonstrates that the owners they picked have the resources and commitment to make at least a minimal spend on players, which it seems Minnesota clearly lacks.

This is a fair point. They’ve tended to go the other way in most cases, prioritizing the deep pockets. I wonder if there were other concerns around the deep pockets in Minnesota. They tended to throw their weight around in ways that were not helpful.

It's possible. As a Vikings fan, I consider the Wilfs to be stellar owners. The team is run well both on and off the field. I remember no real scandals since they took over, for a team with a decent history of steroid issues and off-field behavior problems, including some criminal. I am aware of no enemies they have within the NFL. I don't like their public money grab for the stadium, but that is hardly a negative from the MLS perspective. But all that doesn't mean they came off well in their MLS interviews.

Funny thing is that the Wilfs are co-investors in the Nasvhille expansion side

Give Minnesota time. They will have a new stadium and will spend money then.

Besiktas has petitioned FIFA for a temporary license for Cyle Larin. What a mess

From my research I think they might win. I still don't like it. If the do it should put an end to team options in MLS to avoid further incidents.

It really is stealing a player, pure and simple. He is under contract. He is a big boy, and so is his agent, and they agreed to everything with their eyes open. Sadly, I don't trust FIFA to do the right thing.

I wonder how much this color's their decision making for this round of expansions too. If MNU didn't have spending issues, would MLS have accepted Sacramento with Kevin Nagle as the lead investor?
