I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. Doesn't the fact that Villa gets more actual goals than would be expected from a good average player indicate that he has moments of brilliance beyond what an average player could achieve? Isn't that what a positive G-xG means?
The problem with a stat like G-xG is that it's an average, or a summation. If Villa has a bad run for a few games you'd expect that number to decrease, but averaged over the whole of last season for example he scored 1 1/2 goals for every normally expected goal. Seems kind of phenomenal. And so far this is his third year in a row of doing that for us.
I think what he's trying to say is that Villa's made a big splash by coming to MLS and playing for us. Or something. Or I could be confused. I dunno.

Not trolling, just trying to help. One cool thing about the ASA tables is that they have a date filter, so if you've got a sense of when these yips happened we could go looking for them that way.
Sorry. They don’t have the Villa hat trick (side netting, bleachers and right at the keeper) numbers. But he has racked up quite a few, especially in 2015.
If I were going to look for more recent examples (and I’m not), I’d start with games we dominated and lost. But all of that seems painful and really not worth it.
Also, if fails to account for him taking shots with low xG and occasionally converting. Or stated otherwise, those instances cover up lack of “clinical-ness”.
Being clinical does have a way of covering up a lack of clinicalness, doesn't it.
