CCL 2018

Also, I think I would prefer this as well. As much as an all-MLS final would demonstrate the strength of the league, I would be vastly more interested in a Liga MX vs MLS final (especially if NJ is already eliminated).

And I realize the above is a bit easier to say as it provides me "an out" for rooting against NJ, but I think I would say the same thing if it was another MLS team in their place.
I've decided I am perfectly fine rooting for NJ in this competition if they are playing Mexican opposition. What's good for the league is good for us.

I agree but for a different reason - let them do well in the CCL, but not win it, so that when we beat them it has more cache.

In light of all the controversy from last night, it is interesting that the return leg in Mexico City will be refereed by an officiating crew from Uzbekistan. Apparently, there is some kind of joint cooperation between Concacaf and the AFC, and it includes a referee exchange that affects this match.

What's positive is that the referee seems to be a really good one. He is 5 time AFC referee of the year, and has officiated more World Cup matches than anyone, including the opener in 2010, and the USA - Germany match in 2014.

As good a result and Toronto could hope for. Do they park the bus next week in Azteca?

I’d love to see no Mexican teams in the final.
Um...aren't they parking it already in a 5-3-2 with 2 of the 3 midfielders de factos DMs?

I mean they played extremely well, but CA was very leaky in the back.

I don't think that is a fair characterization of their system. They play a 3-5-2 with very aggressive overlapping wingbacks and a single holding midfielder. Even up two goals, Morgan and Auro were still providing width. They did sub Hasler in the last part of the game for defensive purpose but he was still providing width and getting forward at times.

I would imagine that they are going to play the same formation on the road and maybe play their wingbacks a little less aggressively, but I don't think you see much more than that because an away goal would be huge for them.

Even in this case, I cannot find myself to root for NJ if they make it to the final. It's against my religion.

Not sure how Tim Parker still has a functioning left knee or how Kemar Lawrence hasn't been carded but the scoreline looks good so far

Is this game really boring or am I really too pre-occupied with reading the internet?

And now Collin w the red. See if it opens things up or gets more dull as NJ bunkers down.

Not a favorable result for N.J., but I bet they still advance. Only question will be who replaces Collin.

BWP really needed to finish off his chance in the end.

Maybe w/o Collin they move off of the 3ATB and get more offfensive at home.

Just occurred to me that if Red Bulls win CCL they'll be the Liverpool of MLS.*

* Not sure who I'm trolling with this. Midas Mulligan Midas Mulligan and RB fans both, I guess.
Lol Funny in the sense that LFC are reportedly pillaging their set up in every country for talent. We’ve got like 3 Sotons now.

ETA: not lol dirty confession: RBNJ is in my top 4 (5 if Zlatan is on) squads to watch in MLS. I can’t help but like the way they play, even if I despise the manager and everyone on the team (except Tyler when he lines up for the US).

I’m excited enough for tonight to skip the Americans.
