NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

lol white? hes hopeless
Geez.... I've written a bunch, no a ton, about White's strengths and weaknesses this season, and he is FAR from the weakest link on the team or starters, especially for his pay grade, so I'm not going to rehash it. But if you think White is hopeless, then you aren't being realistic regarding his contributions to the team this year.

i wasnt saying hes the weakest link but hes still not a good player, regardless of his salary. mikey lopez is the weakest link :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:. and i prefer white over Brillant.

I'm not saying he sucks or anything, but if he's not our weakest link, who is? Wallace? Callens? Mata/Sweat?

White has been acceptable, but he's also the spot I would upgrade first, if possible.

Agreed that White has vastly improved, and I definitely don't think he's our weakest link on the roster, but he has to be on the starting XI, no?

Maybe on some of our recent starting XI's with Sweat and/or Lopez in there. But in our preferred starting XI, there's no way he isn't the weakest link.

With our healthy 1st choice team, I'd wager that it's a toss up between Mata and White. Mata has a higher upside of success and more spectacular defensive blunders resulting from endlessly bombing forward and being caught out of position. For me, as a LB defender, it's either feast or famine with Mata. White gives less on the offensive side and plays a more conservative game that has rarely been victimized this season. He had a howler in the Cup, but short of that, the right side organization with Chanot has been extremely good.

If we just look at minutes played, Sweat has logged more as a starter than Mata, so by default he's been our recent starter.

Maybe Mata has been told to fly up the wing and worry about defense second.

IDK... that hypothesis could also be used for Sweat, and the general consensus of the Forums is to crucify him for not playing as good of defense as his offense.

Come on man. You are too observant to miss the fact that people have been complaining about his poor attitude towards defense, rather than the outcomes of that anti-hustle. Particularly in comparison to Mata, who gets back like someone with Sweat's ability should be getting back.

Who yall like Frank Ribery as a Pirlo replacement? I can't convince myself seeing his age/injury issues and the physicality of the league.

In a heart beat. Why are you 50/50? If he was on this team instead of Pirlo we'd have the most dangerous attack (if we don't already, it would be potentially best attack in MLS EVER) in the league with some really good depth too because that'd likely move Wallace to the bench. He is one of the few over 33 players I would still take in a heart beat.

I mean, just think of that attack. Villa flanked by Harrison and Ribery with a midfield of Herrera, Ring, and Moralez.:hearteyes::hearteyes::hearteyes:

Him and Villa would be potential red cards waiting to happen.

It definitely looks like defense is sometimes not the first thing on Sweats mind. My point was that if both players are hypothetically asked to stay high for the outlet pass, and drop only when the CBs are being overloaded, then it comes down to the implementation of those tactics - at what point does the danger register in their head to initiate the need to get back rather than assume the said danger can be cleaned up? I'm not pushing this hypothesis that K Kjbert brought up regarding the tactics, but it should be applied evenly to the position.

I think that people are broadly applying the same expectations to both players. And yeah, it seems like it registers more slowly for Sweat, and when it does, he's more apt to respect that alarm bell with far less tenacity.
