NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Rakitic? De Bruyne (little time spent near defensive box notwithstanding)?
too much of a shuttler/psuedo-att mid to be considered in this group.

kdb: way too offensive. not buying him as a box-box mid no matter where Pep writes his name on the teamsheet.

Robben would be great. But he is not a pure striker/scorer. With him, I still prefer to add a sticker to partner up with him. Is Bayern looking to replace Thomas mueller? He has lost a lot of market value.

Checked out transfermarkt. He has lost a lot of value per their site, but is still listed at 45m.

If Müller leaves Bayern I'd be incredibly surprised (and probably cry too). I don't see that happening at all.

Robben would be decent but he's also an aging and injury prone player. I don't think he'd be involved with/useful for the team as much as we'd like to get out of our DPs. I'm also presuming that this would be a reaction to losing Jack to a transfer/trade overseas.

There were some weird rumors from the ITKs that Liverpool were inquiring about Muller in the summer. Would write it off as total bs except for the fact that he was agitating for change and playing time since he was rarely chosen by Ancelotti.

He’s one of my favorite players. I’d love to have him at Liverpool. For an MLS club, I worry that a not-insignificant portion of what he does for a team would go to waste because he sees the game at such a high level. His soccer brain is often ahead of his teammates at Bayern. Imagine that relative to our roster.

I'll move a discussion to the Bundesliga thread, so I don't go ham on a response about Müller/Ancellotti in the NYCFC players wanted thread. While having Müller here would be a dream, it won't happen. And as you said , his footballing mind is way beyond most players on NYCFC.

I like that he has European Cup experience
I like that he once had form that would excite all of us
I like that he played for Celtic

I never like putting too much stock into guys on free transfers. There are usually reasons why they are available.

I assume this is a case of buy low with hopes for high upside where he regains his form. And he's a back-up

I like that he gives us the chance for a completely different look in offense, since the only 2 tall ST we've had recently were Ugo (who was slooooow and with only USL pedigree) and Shelton (who could never figure it out)

What are you trying to say??? Maxi was a terror for defenses on crosses! He beat his man and was open every time, but the guy crossing the ball always put it too high.

Absolutely love the beard on that guy.

Also nice that he played with Tinnerholm at Malmo, they will each have a familiar face here. Wonder if we were scouting Tinnerholm and then all of a sudden he came on our radar unintentionally.

Between Ring, Tinnerholm and Berget we are really tapping into the scandinavian talent pool.

I would have mixed emotions about this one. On one hand, he should spend at least 2-3 more years in Europe with peak competition. On the other hand, if he comes to MLS, he would be a great fit with us. Reyna said today we are still looking to add one main contributor at the CM position. Hyndman/Herrera would be great competition for the 8. Ring/Sands at the 6.

EDIT: He's not on the allocation list, btw.

You forgot Nemec, which is interesting, because they are remarkably similar-ish.
