Yankee Stadium completely misjudged where baseball was going.

It was the right stadium at the wrong time. In fairness to them, their goal was to build the most expensive and awe inspiring stadium they could, while trying to replicate the original Yankee Stadium.

If they had started over as the Giants did in San Francisco, they would have built the most beautiful stadium in America with the money they spent. But they limited themselves to building a brand new version of Yankee Stadium. In the process, they lost all the charm and alienated fans.

Youre assuming that CFG is the issue. We arent the first team looking for a place to build a stadium and having issues. Im sure CFG would have started building already if it was that easy.

That wasnt my intention.

I just hope something happens soon. It would be nice for the fans in the city to have a home to call their own.

Araos is such a hack, he's only useful for the updates he gets from attending practices. No way they're seriously considering Belmont, no subway access is a non starter. Public transit is how most people get to matches, they'd be killing the entire fanbase by moving there.

There is a public transit access in Belmont though. LIRR.

Not the subway but still rail access.

Here where I think this entire thing is bullshit. Sure, those architects designed our training facility. But remember all the talk about a stadium when Populous opened up offices in New York.

I don't think this firm will be designing our stadium. So don't read too much into it.

Vinoly is a fcking white collar sweat shop architecture firm. Pains me that CFG uses them for anything as they treat their employees as replaceable fodder.

I like the idea (that I think mgarbowski mgarbowski alluded to) - this is just something that improves our bargaining position for other opportunities.

Or maybe they have a different kind of facility in mind?

Yeah, one possibility (that may be motivated reasoning on my part, but whatevs) is that ESDC and other state folks told them to take a look at Belmont before trying to open the Willet's Point can of worms. CFG knows the revolt that will ensue if they were serious about Belmont, but sucking up to Cuomo and his folks is the name of the game in terms of getting stuff done on the state level - so they make nice and take a pro forma look at the Belmont site.

At this point I think Belmont is as close to city stadium as we can get.

Willets Point is an impossible dream, way too many red tapes.
The club will die there. They'll lose 90% of their base and LI will not support them. It would be as bad as RB being in Harrison but they have the path train. CFG might as well take a bottle of Ambien and snort 10 lines of coke if they sign on the dotted line for Belmont.

Queens border is literally stones throw away.

Yeah this is what I sort of indirectly alluded to. NYCFC needs lots of government cooperation to get a stadium in the city, probably from both the city and state. So when the state says please consider a proposal for Belmont, NYCFC has to go through the motions so as not to piss them off. And maybe as an added bonus it makes some other potential land seller a bit more motivated to deal.

Belmont?
