True but to loose half your support in one match is more than alarming .l understand that a lot of that 63,000 had free tickets to go but what sort of message does that send out to the owners.
Likewise I think this weekends attendance at NY is critical most of the 43,000 that went to the first game paid for tickets so hopefully more return.
Although the team is not playing brilliantly its still top of the league and I think even a drop of 10,000 would be maybe understandable but also worrying.
It will be interesting to see what happens when the inevitable defeats arrive to the attendance figures
I agree. I think that we are on the right track with the planned stadium at around 28K.
For both Orlando and our home opener they opened additional seats for the initial game. In both cases the numbers were inflated by the extra hype surrounding the game. No one expects crowds that large for every game. Over the next few weeks the numbers will settle in to what our actual average will be. It's not going to be 43,000 and that's fine because no one here expected it to be.
Exactly. The question is, what will the drop be, and how long before it levels off.
Orlando drew 31,000 plus for their game on Saturday, which is half of opening day, but still a great crowd. It will probably not level off at that point either, but if it stabilizes around 22-25K, that's a great start for a brand new franchise.
Orlando did a lot to create a sellout in the first game, so dropping by half is not surprising. I don't think we will drop by the same proportion. I expect 25-30K - we will see if they open the 300 level this time or not.

I was confused about this as well. There are what we call bye weeks where some teams don't play. I think this is done so the schedule can balance out over a full season. NYCFC has a bye the first week of April. They're not playing in that weekend round.
Orlando was only opening half the stadium, anyway. So it was still a sell-out to be fair. Gotta keep demand up.

I watched the RB's, and they played well. It was a bit strange to not feel engaged as in the past when the team also "represented" us New Yorker. One thing that I observed was that many seat were empty. I agree, It did not seem like 21 K attendance. I am not crowing, because I still have loyalty for them and only time will foretell our NYCFC team may have same problems. I predict because of easy geographical and public transport access, its many ethnic groups are football fans we may have a moderate consistent attendance. I must say Wright , Robles and company played well. The team owners may not tell publicly but RB's lost many fans to NYCFC
Considering that OCSC capped the ticket sales at 23k until 48 hours before the Vancouver match it's not a fall of 31k seats it's a gain of 8,000. That is great news for their franchise and MLS.
I wasn't aware they had done that,so yes its 8000 they hadn't expected. I'm sure they would have opened as much up to accommodate how ever many wanted to go tho.I'm sure if the other 31k had said can we pay to come in the answer would of been yes.
That said 31k is a very good crowd
Orlando did very well their second week. Nobody thought they would repeat 63K. If they level off at anywhere near 31K, they will have the best fan support this side of Seattle.

2013 and 2014 saw only small changes over the full season from the attendance through 3 weeks. In 2012, there was a dropoff, in part because Montreal attracted nearly 60,000 for its opener in Week 3. We will probably see a dropoff from these levels in 2015 for similar reasons. Even if you assume a dropoff, the numbers would still be a record high.
