I just spoke to a very nice rep for the NYCFC who went over some aspects of the program.
Basically, this is a way to sell more tickets to games and to get kids out supporting the team (these are my words, not his). Both, frankly, are good goals, and I support that.
There are four different levels of commitment that a youth program can adopt. Each involve buying some combination of season tickets and group tickets. In exchange, the team will give the youth club a certain number of opportunities for kids to do things like get on the field for warm ups, act as player escorts, work as a ball boy/girl. The team will also hold coaching clinics for the youth club's coaches and do pre-game "chalk talks". The highest commitment involves buying 40 season tickets and 100 group tickets, and the lowest involves only 4 season tickets. So, there is a big range, and flexibility within each level to structure it the way the youth organizations would like.
I personally think it will be difficult for me to get something done with my son at this time, but I think it's a good program and will consider trying to get something done now or at some point in the future.
