Portland - Postmatch

Villa has not been good this year. I'm sorry. If his name was Danny Villa, he'd be on the bench right now.
I'm the Villa homer so whatever, but you really think he should be benched? I'm not saying he has been great, he really hasn't been, but who would you rather be playing as striker? Berget?

Again, he has not been vintage Villa, and it's getting scary, but he is still showing flashes. He does have 2 goals and 2 assists in limited minutes. He looks mortal, I just don't think that means he is "bad"

And I am becoming the new Angela...fuck me

I want to see Ofori play left back. That's my only thought right now. I'll get back to you guys after I rewatch the game.

Point of information - one of villas goals was a PK, so while technically a goal, it was a gift from Berget.

What was up with PV’s decision making tonight? So he sits Medina and Herrera to teach them some lesson... apparently they didn’t show enough effort in training. If he thought he could pull that off tonight and still get a result against a struggling Portland team he was clearly dead wrong. We had all the possession in the world with zero intend to turn it into something. No one benefits from a loss. If this was supposed to be some learning experience for them I’m clueless as to what they learned. Shit I better train harder this week so I’m not subbing in down 2-0 in the next game. Genius stuff.
We played everything forward to players standing completely still and they then passed it backwards. I don’t think Mata took on a single defender tonight. Tinnerholm had some crosses but everything was low and driven into defenders with no NYCFC players going near post.

Did I miss hear the announcers? I didn't think it was about teaching a lesson, I thought it was about avoiding burnout.

I think for the way they are trying to play this year, he's not a great fit at the moment. Tajouri has been our best offensive player. Medina our best creater. You could talk me into Berget as a 9. You could talk me into a 4 man midfield with 2 Strikers.

Point is this - he's not the player he was the last 3 years. What we need to determine is what he has left. It's difficult to play around an aging star.

Is it better if we have a scheduled last match for Villa, have an open DP spot in the summer, and let Villa go back to Gijon? I think he still has value on the bench and in the locker room but I want to hear thoughts on this.

Reporting from Portland.

When I saw the lineup I thought what the fuck is Vieira doing? Is this his way of saying he doesn’t want the Arsenal job?

Yeah, he’s not ready for Europe and this team wasn’t ready for this game. Utter shit for 90 minutes.

I would like to see a front three of Shradi, Villa and Medina before we decide Villa no longer fits
