I live in queens, so this wouldnt be too bad for me. However, theyre really alienating people from Westchester, CT and upper Manhattan if this goes through...creating horrible commutes for everyone. No better than Harrison NJ for some
It's not that bad. Cross Island Parkway is accessible directly from Throgs Neck and Whitestone Bridge. It's a 10 minute ride from each.

Kills Connecticut, Westchester and rockland counties. It is ten minutes from the bridges if there is no traffic, which is never the case in LI. At best you have 30 minutes to go ten miles. At worst it could be over an hour from those bridges.

And forget public transport.

I really hope this is a negotiating move.

Its hard to believe that after all the city did for Barclays, and Yankee stadium that eminent domain would be used for the one building blocking the way. I desperately hope the racetrack location is a decoy.

Another thing, how is it one tenant that kills the Bronx deal? Of all the things that could go wrong THATS what does it? Seems fishy to me...

Just for laughs I googled around and found this. The Yankee Stadium site would be ideal. Aqueduct? No so much. As you can see the A train has a stop there and it's right off the Belt Parkway, but in all honesty I'm not sure if either is equipped to handle the load of a 20K+ crowd. Perhaps someone more familiar with the area can chime in.

From a strictly personal point of view, this site wouldn't be a deal breaker for me at all. I did a quick search on the MTA web page and it would be about 4 stops more for me on the subway to get there as compared to Yankee Stadium. A bit further than the Bronx, but actually a lost closer than Flushing Meadows Park.

Honestly, I still think we end up in the Bronx. Look how things have progressed. All of a sudden the Mayor seems on board for the Bronx location and the factory is balking when for the longest time it seemed to be the opposite. I'm getting the feeling once the checkbok opens up a little more for the factory people we'll have a done deal.

That's from an old EOS article pointing at ten locations for a possible stadium (http://www.empireofsoccer.com/10-possible-locations-for-a-soccer-stadium-in-nyc-18760/2/). This proved to be the best of the litter for clear reasons -- some of which I included in today's write up: http://www.empireofsoccer.com/report-aqueduct-through-28818/

Nothing you all haven't spoken about already, but the site has its clear advantages and disadvantages. Location is pretty bad as is transportation. Politically and as far as availability goes, doesnt get much better in the Tri-State area.

Is it fair to say this site gives NYCFC the chance to get this done far more quickly and cheaply than in the Bronx, where NYCFC has the potential to get stuck in a DC-United-esque trudge?

People forget that the GAL deal involves usage of PUBLIC LAND. That makes it all the more difficult. This isnt the most ideal route, but it can be the most direct (outside of the Cosmos' Belmont bid, of course).

So if this is it, NYCFC vs RBNY essentially becomes ones in the city, the other isn't. Both stadiums would be in bad locations.

This story frustrates me so much. With all the money MCFC's owners have and the Yankees have, a few million one way or another to deal with GAL's relocation should be no issue, especially to build another cash cow stadium in the Bronx, utilizing Yankee Stadium's parking and mass transit infrastructure, offices, etc. I PRAY that this is a negotiation tactic, and the Bronx site, or a pier-side site in Manhattan can be found.

But, if we're going to talk alternate sites -- Why not talk about Belmont Park and the NY Cosmos' plan? Couldn't Cosmos and NYCFC co-habitate at a gorgeous new 25,000 seater park, using Belmont Park's LIRR station and buses to nearby F and E Trains as the mass-transit option? The MLS and NASL season schedules probably could intermingle without too much issue, other than both wanting prime Saturday night matches.

Other than the Cosmos being butt-hurt over NYCFC being chosen as the MLS team last year, their in-limbo project could sure use the push NYCFC's owners cash could provide. And Belmont Park sure could use the re-development dollars.

Personally, being from Connecticut, I'd love a Westchester County stadium site and training ground. But that's not NYC.

This aquaduct plan sounds great. Transportation is iffy, but the city has built up transportation to stadiums in the past, and I would expect the same in this case as well. It is next to two major highways, and is not very difficult to access from up state/connecticut. I know some people here have complained about traffic on the cross-island or belt parkway/southern state, but given that most games are on weekend evenings I don't think that will be much of a problem. The emphasis must be on getting a stadium within the city's borders as soon as possible without getting stuck in negotiations for too long. I may be biased in that I live right off of the cross-island, but that also gives me the incite that traffic is only bad on that highway during rush hours.

Building pubic transportation is a quagmire. How long have they been building the 2nd ave subway and the 7 train west side access?

If the team wants to build a robust fan base it has to be readily accessible on current public transit. A subway to a bus is not readily accessible. Its frankly easier to take the path train to NJ for RBNY games then it would be to get to Aqueduct for a non-driving fan (hint: most people in the five boroughs don't own cars).

They dont need to build anything new, all they would need to do is specialize a few express trains. The A train already goes there.

It does yes but have you tried taking it to the casino? Its not like its right outside.

Also its ~10 stops to broadway junction which is the first place to get a connecting train (only the J/L). Its just not that convenient.

Personally, I live on the A train so it would be a ~25 min trip for me, closer than Yankee stadium, but i realize that its very inconvenient for anyone living in BK not on the A, anyone in the Bronx/Westchester and pretty much all of Queens.
