Would anyone support a team name change to New York State Football Club? NYSFC

I would support that and a stadium somewhere in the Hudson River Valley if NYC falls through.....

ill become a red supporter if the stadium is any farther north than westchester. if its in westchester, than i wount support at all

Anything outside of NYC borders is a failure, plain and simple. No way in hell they can play in Yonkers, or Jersey, or LI. This is NYCFC, they need to be in NYC. Period. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that "NY" teams play in NJ.

While it might actually work (stadium gets built, team thrives), it would be a failure on the part of NYCFC and MLS if they end up building outside of NYC.

I live about 10 minutes from the Yonkers Raceway and even I see obvious problems. For starters, there is a raceway and a casino there. There's no reference in the article to anyone having any interest in taking these down. A complete shot in the dark by the author. Also, despite being at one of the most car-accessible spots in the tri-state area, it's a mile walk away from the nearest Metro North station, and that walk is through a partly residential area. The waterfront in Yonkers could probably support a minor league baseball stadium the size of the one in Brooklyn, but there's no great site in Yonkers for a stadium as big as we need.

If that's your mindset then just stop supporting now. You clearly have little to no connection with the team.

That's not really fair to him. Honestly, what connection do any of us have to this team? Unless your a diehard ManCity fan, it's not like anyone has a history with the club that hasn't even played it's first game yet.

I love watching soccer, and honestly, the biggest appeal of NYCFC is my proximity to Yankee Stadium. If it's going to take me 1+ hours to get to the game, then I'm happy to stay home and watch EPL games on Saturday mornings.

NYU has no fields -- they play at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, which is approximately 2 city blocks wide by 1 city block long.

Columbia plays on a small field near Baker Field in northern Manhattan. You could probably fit a stadium there if you knocked the whole thing down, but you'd have to share it with Columbia and there is no reasonable way for anyone to get there. It's even hard to get to from Manhattan. Close in distance but no way it could handle any sort of traffic.
NYU doesn't play at Gaelic Park, Manhattan College does. Gaelic Park would not be suitable anyway, it's way too small. Columbia just invested major money into the Bakers field facility, there's no way they would be interested in building a stadium there, although possibly it could be the practice facility.

I will NOT support a team outside of the city. I dont like the giants or the jets.
Just do yourself a favor and stop reading articles written by people with little to no connection to NYCFC. Writing crap just to get you to read and talk about it here and get others to do the same and spread it on social media.
I'll listen to stadium news when it comes from the club or a city official.

NYU most certainly does play their home games at Gaelic Park and I clearly mentioned that it's 2 city blocks by 1 city block -- too small to hold a stadium.

Columbia invested money in a new Athletics building on the site (weight rooms, offices, etc) They haven't invested anything new into the football stadium, which in current form hold ~15,000. They could do a deal where they rehab the stadium and long term lease/facility share as the football team only plays there 5 times a year plus practice. But for that kind of dual use, they prob play on turf. Not ideal. The soccer stadium holds 5K and not much room to build that out unless they ate up some practice field space. As far as travel, it's 5 minute walk from 1-train, A-train and MetroNorth but abosultely no car parking spaces at all. Might make for an interisting interim solution until a permanent space is found.

totally self-centered in my support of this solution as I'd walk out my front door, cross the street and be on my club's grounds. Just a short stumble home post game as well....

Apologies, Fred- I go to GP all the time for GAA stuff, but I've never come across NYU teams, only Manhattan College. Very interesting. As for Bakers field, considering how notoriously bad the Lions are, hard to see Columbia be willing to jump through all the hoops that they would have to in order to get a big stadium project approved, no? There was a lot of community resistance to the new building (if I recall correctly) and the University is focused on construction of its new campus. Of course, if the pot gets sweetened significantly by NYC FC and it's a big reward for minimal effort (like with the Olympic bid) maybe they would go for it...

I agree with Mr. Conspiracy here. We were drawn to this club for a number of reasons, but mainly two promises:
1. It would NOT be just a MCFC's feeder club, but rather have its unique NY identity
2. It would be located in NYC

If you take away major draw number 2, with major draw number 1 still not 100% certain.... well I see no reason to support them over RBNY or any other club. Our fandom is currently based on our expectation of a club, but if that suddenly changed and was not fulfilled, it would be a lack of loyalty on the club's part, not our part, if we left.

To illustrate, if they changed the name to Monster Energy New York, I bet 90% of the supporters would be out the door faster than you can say "sellout"

It looks like Aqueduct is their focus, it looks like they want it in the lots, but in doing that they would need Melinda Katz to sign off and she does not seem to be on board as Eric Ulrich, so the work around would actually be to take down the racetrack and build on that site, because it is owned by the state or build on the site of Home Depot that is directly on Rockaway Blvd.

NYRA will then make Belmont a year round horse racing venue and become the focal point of local horseracing.

The fact that there seems to be contingency plans on top of contingency plans at that location, makes it look like it is more than a bargaining chip for the elevator company in the Bronx.
