Starting to wonder if this game gets played. Can absolutely see a scenario in which the players refuse to play.

I mean, my interest has already been waning due to the delays and the inability to attend any games, not to mention our poor form. If we have another disruption, I think that is enough for me to call it for the season.

I'm probably in the same boat.

Counterpoint - no one that needs to be made uncomfortable will be by an MLS strike.
The nfl and SEC football are the only ones that can move this forward. Just my two cents.

See you next year folks.....maybe.

Sports have lost that "escape factor" that has always made it so appealing.

meh....even before all this it didnt feel the same anyway. the reason i say it is there were no full crowds at most of these games ( around the world) so that was a reminder that all is not well, and not much of an escape as it normally can be.

Since when were sports an 'escape factor'? The very fact derby's and rivalry's, and the olympics exists means they can't be an "escape factor".... Separately,

.

Oh and

...Sports have always had political implications. Schalke is constantly accused of having nazi ties back in the day.

And separately, one of my favorite quotes:

i don't think he meant "escape" in the sense you are interpreting it. I took it to mean it was 2 hours to zone out and focus on nothing but the game being played. in that way, it is an escape. there are no politics involved when watching a series of sexy passes up the middle leading to a golazo.

i am all for athletes speaking up and using their platform to bring attention to the issues at hand. i'm not sure MLS has the loudest voice, but I respect that they made the choice and did it. I have my own personal thoughts about all the protests and the BLM movement, but I won't get into that here as it is not the correct forum for it. I just wish everyone could just get along. Everything is so divided and adversarial now. No one can speak their mind without being attacked. It's you're with us or you're against us. It's a very sad time to live in.

Not quite sure exactly what your saying.

My point is that for me, sports is an entertainment option. When I watch, I want to be able to think about the game I'm watching. I think of playing as a kid or with my friends. I think of going to games at Yankee stadium. I think about the World Cups I've been to and will go to in the future.
I don't think of politics, turmoil, tragedies etc. This is an emotional escape from that. I need an escape from that, we all do.
When you see BLM shirts and such all the time, your brought back to the crisis we are facing everyday. When you see an empty stadium, you are constantly reminded of that crisis we are facing. When you see the national anthem skipped or disrespected, you are reminded of the hate and division we face all of the time, instead of unity. None of that is the joy of soccer, which I want to see, which gives me joy.

Sure, the players and league have the right to do what they wish, but I also have the right to not watch a product I don't enjoy. Any one of those above things, I can tolerate, but all of that at once, it completely makes the game unwatchable.

I may be in the minority, in which case this will persist for a long time to come, which is fine....I can always do more fishing or hiking or other productive things that replace the emotional benefits left behind by soccer.

Edit: I apologize for bringing some politics into this. I'm not going to discuss any of these issues specifically or challenge your contrary opinions. I'm simply elaborating on why I personally will not be watching for a while and therefore, will greatly reduced my participation on these forums.
So please don't try and challenge my views, they are my own.

Ah, sorry. I misunderstood what you were saying; you and moogoo explained better. I thought you were referring to the use of sports as a medium for personal / collective means which is what I interpreted it as.

Regarding the actual current political/etc aspects of it I'll leave that so we don't have to continue the discussion as you pointed out this is not the right venue for that.

In typical NYCFC fashion (of late) I can see us lose this one pretty bad. I’d like to see Sands get further up the pitch again. He’s probably our best midfielder if Maxi isn’t in there. Also Acevedo please!

I kind of liked Sands up the pitch as an outlet for our crappy team.
But he should be playing CB next to Chanot in a 4-3-3 right now. Callens has been MIA and Ring is frankly a terrible box to box midfielder. He needs to be deep in front of a CB pairing.
