Montreal (Away) - Postmatch

Is it too little too late? Not so much for the season but for fans? Low attendance, little social media interaction and now the forums are just about dead.
Has Dome just broken the fan spirit with unattractive football?
This is the only reason I’m buying rumors of (insert big name here). The team desperately needs something to jolt attendance and get people talking again.
We’re shitting the bed in ratings

I'm not sure it's too late but I do think it will take more than 10 points in 4 games to overcome 18 in 19. That was a very sustained streak of boring, bad form. A name will help jump start it. It could need 2 rounds playoff success to really pull people back in.

It's a sad day for Keaton Parks. He's going to see as few minutes with us as he was getting with the Benfica U23 or wherever he was. Everything else looks good. We were clearly superior to a team that couldn't get a shot on goal at home. If we are at least mildly optimistic on Mitrita transforming his obvious talent into production we really should be happy with the performance and our level vis-a-vis the rest of the Eastern Conference. We were missing three starters in Sands, Mata and Mitrita.

I think this will be kind of a fallow year for casual fan interest, and that's due both to Villa leaving and our largely crap on-field product up to now under Domé (he says, optimistically thinking things are turning around).

But, if we: start winning a lot more with this much more exciting style AND sign a Big Name AND announce a Stadium, I think people will start coming back.

So long as we're winning games, is it OK if I don't care at all about Keaton Parks' lack of playing time? Does anyone actually know if he's any good?

Keaton Parks' lack of playing time
The only sense in which I care about it is as a sign whether or not the FO has any idea what they're doing with regard to loan signings. Maybe he's purely bench depth and that's all he was meant to be, and there was outsized hype because he's American and is signed to a decent European club.

Winnable games end now. Let’s see what LAG do.

There's no arguing that away to LAG will be very tough. But Chicago and Columbus are merely solid-- not deadly -- at home, and overall our past schedule is decidedly harder than our future schedule. We still have 9 games left against the 7 worst teams in the league -- each with a PPG of 1.1 or lower. That's 3/8 of the remaining schedule against utter crap. The H/A weighted PPG of NYCFC's remaining opponents is 1.24, which is tied for 4th easiest in the league. The team has to play well to take advantage of that and it's definitely capable of disappointing, but the easy pickings are there.

Very positive showing yesterday. Montreal looked like a club that had just defended and got a few fortuitous results - no real idea going forward and they missed their two chances in the first half.

NYCFC looked cohesive, passed well and generally was on the front foot. When NYCFC had to defend, they were organized - any team that has to go through the back 3 and Ring/Ofori should find difficulty if it’s not on the transition. Chanot in the center also gave Callens license to roam more, which plays to both their strengths (Callens being a mobile CB and Chanot cleaning up crosses in the middle).

Tinnerholm had a great game and was basically responsible for both goals - the diagonal ball to open up the D for sweat to shoot and winning the battle on the end line (or at least occupying the defender for the ball to pop over to Maxi).

Shradi’s banger was indicative of his strengths. He shouldn’t be going to the end line but needs to cut in. Heber was a bit off but is still the mobile 9 this team needs.

Rocha actually played better than expected after he came in - he kept things simple and circulated the ball - which is why I think NYCFC liked him, for quick ball movement. (All, I cant believe I just defended Almond Rocca. What is happening).

Medina, on the other hand...CFG needs to punt him to their affiliate in Siberia as he is keeping the team from signing an impact player. No confidence, not sure what he brings.

On to Zlatan. Raise your hand if you are hoping Sands is back for this game to see the two of them go at it.

Everyone saying Heber had an off night, I don't see it that way. If he gets his header on frame, he scores and we're all praising him again. More importantly, Maxi doesn't score his goal without Heber dragging defenders away from him. This happened throughout the game. His movement constantly frees up space for other players. When it looks like he isn't having a great night, it's because he's quietly opening up the field for his teammates. I'm really liking this guy a lot.

Only semi-related to the game. I was half proud, half embarrassed that I got the telecast trivia question correct.

Who was the first NYCFC defender to score a goal?

Kwame Watson Siriboe
Heh, I somehow got it, too. They asked the question and my first thought, for real, was "Lord Kwame". I wouldn't claim I actually knew, though.

He has never played at this level, so we really don't know if he can hack it here. The loan makes no sense for two reasons; why did we accept it (unless we had expected to play him, but he hasn't impressed since arrival), and why did Benfica loan him here if they saw any real potential?
