I don't actually think either team is that great, just making fun of our collective goalpost-moving tendency. The fact that it's hard to know who the good MLS teams are early in the season makes it easy to do.
Thirteen shots 3 outside the box and 10 inside the box -- I think the team is fixing the 'way too many shots from outside the box' problem that was keeping NYCFC from being more dangerous on the attack.
You can only beat who's in front of you. I honestly don't know what to make of this team right now. We still might suck or we might be OK. I'd like to see more Heber and Mitri together before making a solid judgement.
We won't suck, comparatively speaking. There's already like 10 teams that take care of that need. But we might end being middle-of-the-pack.
I wonder if Keaton Parks' loan will end this summer. If he isn't getting playing time, then it doesn't make sense for any of the three parties involved.
I agree that Montreal has had results that exceed their level of play, but I wonder how much that will change once Piatti is back. They have been solid defensively and stolen some points that way, but they need a locksmith to open the final door on offense, and he can certainly be that guy.

The biggest point of optimism I took from this match was that despite missing Sands, we still managed to hold a decent opponent to zero shots on target on the road. That's a difficult task, even against a weak opponent.
At this point, I have much more optimism than a couple weeks ago obviously. We cant win MLS Cup with this roster, but we are close...like getting rid of a useless DP and bringing in an impactful replacement this summer close..... to being a viable contender roster wise.
Management-wise...... I want to be optimistic and say that Dome has finally found his bearings in this league. I don't think it has truly happened...or will happen, but a fan can hope.

Very nice post -- all very true. It seems like Dome has dumbed everything down to MLS level and we're now seeing the fruits of that. Play your best players = results. Dropping Medina somehow could push the team over the edge in playing for the Cup.
Even with Medina, we had a total of 90 DP minutes out of 270 last match. Maxi -> Medina. And we were missing the anchor in our back line. And playing our 2nd string LWB.
Curious to see our totals for the year. And each year before (not asking you to cull). I don’t think we’ve gotten good return on investment from an on-field perspective.
In 2015 I only tracked appearances. I think I have minutes from 2016-now, but without looking it up I'm sure 2018 was our best year for DP time played to date (with 2019 TBD).I thinkmgarbowski did something like that once in previous years.
2015 was ridiculous, with Villa hurt a little, plus no other DP until midsummer, and Lampard hurt a bit even then.
2016 Lampard missed about half a season.
2017 Pirlo was a DNP for most of the second half.
2018 Maxi Medina and Villa played 32, 28, and 23 games respectively, and I think all absences were injury related. Each averaged 70+ minutes in games they played.
I think that's easy to see. Lampard played relatively few matches because of injuries. Pirlo was benched in favor a Yangel and even Mikey Lopez at times. Medina has been unproductive and is now a bench player. Villa and Maxi have been our only consistently good and available DPs.

Uh, Tinnerholm was much, much better than Sweat. Sweat wouldn't make the top NYCFC guys for this TOTW, though are there any better LBs for the TOTW?
That seems odd to me. He had a much better match than his previous one, but outside of his well taken shot that led to the rebound Maxi buried, I didn't think he did all that much.
