PSA - YouTube TV Will No Longer Carry YES Network

Was just coming here to post the same thing. Crazy. Makes me very very unhappy.

I am already looking into alternatives.

This is a result of the Disney merger, I think. They sold the Fox Sports Networks to those pig fuckers at Sinclair, who are trying to extract more money.

I have ESPN+ but only show out of region games and black out in region ones. My hope is that I can utilize my VPN to utilize ESPN+ to watch as an "out of region" viewer.

Since I cut my cable a year ago, I use Kodi on the Xbox. It is a bit of a hassle, but I do get to see all the sports (and movies/TV) I want.

So, a few nuggets from my research.
  • For streaming services, Yes Network is only available on Hulu and AT&T (which used to be DirecTV).
  • The YES Network was dropped from Sling last summer in a dispute similar to that with YouTubeTV right now.
  • If you have a Roku box or TV, then AT&T will not be available as they aren't paying Roku enough to be on their system.
  • Hulu is $55/month, plus $10 for an upgrade to their DVR that allows fast forwarding through commercials and extra storage. If you want to stream to more than 2 devices at once, that's another $10/month.
  • AT&T is $80/month.
  • Hulu gets poor marks for its interface.
I am going to sign up for Hulu and go through the free trial. I will report back.

Thanks Gotham Gator Gotham Gator — looks like YES now is only available on Hulu and AT&T TV NOW. Hulu is cheaper and has recording built in, so I guess that’s it.

Y’all see any other options?

how is Hulu cheaper?

YTTV is $50 a month, allows 3 simultaneous streams, sharing with 4 other people, and unlimited DVR. it also has a superior interface and integration with chromecast and google home/assistant than other services.

I switched from ATT NOW/DirectTV because at the time, there was no true DVR and even if it allowed recording, it would NOT let me cast it to my TV. It also had a lot of trouble with streaming and get choppy streams and have to restart the app several times. I'm not sure if it has improved.

For the money and features, i think YTTV is still the best deal in my experience and especially if you are heavily integrated into the google system. Obviously, you go with whichever works best for you.

I'm hoping i can watch the game via ESPN+ though VPN this weekend. Hopefully, it works. Otherwise, I guess I'll be hunting down a stream some other way.

im having real issues with espn+ using CyberGhost vpn. I even made a new espn account with a new Email, worried they had my address at espn and that’s why i was still blacked out. What do you use?

I think he meant Hulu is cheaper than AT&T. YouTubeTV is certainly preferable for its DVR and interface, but I needs my YES Network.

Anyone else have ideas?

Yeah. I just changed to cyberghost bc it’s supposed to be the best for streaming. And FSG, hbo, Netflix are all working for me here in Jamaica. But espn+ still blacking me out for NY...

at this point... might have to consider chalking up the cash for a VPN that doesn't get blocked like NordVPN or ExpressVPN.

This really annoys me. . now i'm quite disgruntled.

Yeah, I just meant Hulu looks like a better option than AT&T. Youtube TV is great, other than no longer having NYCFC

thats why i switched to cyberghost. My free trial ends when i get back to NY. So if anyone has a vpn that works w espn+ please let me know!

My brother showed me an alternative to google chrome called Opera which has a free VPN built into it. I tried getting it to work with espn+ and honestly it was a pain in the neck to get everything to finally load. But it did get around the blocked content to show me one of the replay games from last year. So I dont know if its totally worth it but it worked for me yesterday

Not a bad recommendation. could potentially be doable. based on a bit of googling, seems opera's VPN uses a canadian service, which may not be blocked by ESPN+. worth a shot.

i'm gonna give it a go and will report back if ESPN+ works. won't know for sure if it will show up as "out of region" for watching the game this weekend, but it should as long as it doesn't use a NY area based server for some reason.

UPDATE:
I can confirm ESPN+ does work with Opera's VPN option enabled. I don't have a way to check for out of region viewing yet. So, i'll have to see what happens this weekend.

Process is pretty simple if anybody wants to give it a try. Download and install the opera browser. Go into settings and enable the VPN. that's it.

I have a subscription to Express VPN which has been good. Will give an update for this season to confirm, likely for this weekend’s game
