TEAM ------------ Points -- Games Played

1. DC United --------- 25 -- 14
2. NE Revolution ---- 20 -- 13
3. Jersey Red Bulls -- 17 -- 11
4. Toronto FC -- ------16 -- 11
5. Columbus Crew ----16 -- 12
6. Orlando City --------14 -- 13

7. Chicago Fire ----------14 -- 11
8. Philadelphia Union -- 12 -- 14
9. Montreal Impact ----- 8 -- 8
10. New York City ------- 8-- 13

Still a large hole. 6 points behind Orlando City and Chicago for 6th and Chicago has two games in hand.

3rd through 5th also have games in hand on us and several points out front.

We'll need a huge impact from the summer transfer window and even then the playoff chase will be fierce -- especially if Montreal makes some nice signings in the summer themselves.

We might see 5 teams battling for the final 2 spots in the playoffs right down to the final week at this rate.

Remaining schedule

6/6 @Philadelphia
6/13 Montreal
6/20 @Toronto
6/28 New Jersey

7/4 @Montreal (how un-American!)
7/12 Toronto
7/18 @New England
7/26 Orlando

8/1 Montreal
8/9 @New Jersey
8/13 DC United
8/19 @Columbus
8/23 @LA Galaxy
8/29 Columbus

9/12 @Dallas
9/16 Toronto
9/19 San Jose
9/26 @Vancouver

10/2 @DC United
10/16 @Orlando
10/25 New England

From August til the end of the season is an absolutely STACKED schedule. Nothing but playoff teams. Many of the toughest ones away.

Look at the insane travel we do from mid-August on.

New York to Columbus, Ohio then onto Los Angeles, California, then all the way back to New York then all the way down to Dallas, Texas then back to NY for 2 weeks then all the way back to Vancouver, Canada then come all the way back to DC then down to Florida for Orlando then back to NY.

I'd love to know the mileage on all of that!

Just think of all the Etihad frequent flyer miles we'll be getting.

Completely unrelated, but that was one of the points "experts" brought up with bringing European players to MLS. In England, Italy, Spain, etc., their travel for games is really pretty minimal. In the States, they really need to get adjusted to how much time it takes to get from city to city around the country.

I don't think a playoff place is going to be too difficult if there's a reasonable improvement in form. Worth remembering that every team up to NER has taken less than half their available points, if we can start turning some draws into wins we'll catch up very quickly.

We have sucked against the worst teams in the league, and we still have to play the hardest teams. Playoffs?!

Well, there's not a lot of distance between the best and worst teams in the league. We're the worst team right now, and there haven't been any real blowouts besides Seattle. And I'm operating on the assumption Lampard will have a substantial impact, and that there will be a third DP. And while there are a lot of things that bother me about the team, results have generally been worse than the level of play.

Boy if the scores stay like they are right now, the Eastern playoff race is going to be fascinating down the stretch!
Chicago is ahead of Orlando, Montreal leads Columbus, we beat Philly, Toronto beat DC United.
