ATL and Orlando

I don't think that NYCFC obsesses with Red Bulls. We know we're in New York, we also know we play in Yankee Stadium. We accept both of those facts.
The rational part of our fanbase, sure. But that applies equally to all the other teams too.

Who from the fan base obsesses over RB? Can't imagine any of the supporters groups. The casual fan definitely doesn't. Maybe those lame asses that started the deli sign brawl last year but that was an outlier.

its weird here.....from what i have seen some of the atlanta silverbacks "ultras" are actually cool with orlando groups. however those atlanta guys hate or heavily dislike anyone related to atlanta united....so theres that.

Why not just use Atlanta Silverbacks brand in MLS as opposed to another. Freaking United.

Tbf it's only the second one in MLS. Minnesota apparently won't have a "United" in their name. I don't know why but apparently MLS is making them change it.

But in terms of the silverbacks name, I'm sure there are legalities about it from NASL. Plus the silverbacks are not really dead....they will play in the NPSL which is "fourth tier" amateur league this year, so in a way they got relegated.

Haven't they always had a team that played in the NPSL? Pretty sure that's their reserves. My understanding is that the league took over when the owner hightailed it. Well they bought it from him. They Ran the team for two seasons and then dissolved it due to no one wanting to purchase. The reason SIlverbacks fans aren't just jumping ship to ATLU is because when ATLU was first announced the silverbacks weren't yet dissolved. So I think there was some 'beef' there to start with. So it's not like silverbacks went away because they're becoming ATLU. They went away probably because the owner realized if he keeps the team once ATLU kicks off his stands will be empty.

How did they get Sounders?

How did they get Sounders?
The owners of the Sounders brand were willing to sell it to the MLS club, which I believe had some crossover from the USL entity. When the MLS club launched, they intended to start fresh, even released a poll with options to determine the new name and did not include Sounders. The supporter's made enough noise about it that they eventually came to the decision to go with the Sounders brand, which I believe first launched in the 70's and had almost continuously operated since (unlike the Cosmos which were dead for 30 year) the original NASL went defunct.
The Silverbacks are a different story. It was a struggling franchise prior to MLS coming to town and likely had a dim future. There was no cross-over ownership (as mentioned, the NASL had taken over the team) and the brand has not even been around for as long and never represented a top level team like the Sounders once did. So making taking a little minor-league brand to launch your major league club just made no sense.

it used to be their U23's but since the NASL team died they revived it in the NPSL. its no longer called the U23's or reserves. its the atlanta silverbacks...i think they got a new owner etc. it was probably facilitated because of the NASL and NPSL partnership or loose partnership if you will.

here is their page in NPSL.

i think they added "FC" to the end of it to differentiate a bit since the old sounders name did not have that i think.
