Carl'S Cheesesteaks is gone!

This an outrage. I may need to demand a refund for my season tickets.

Uh, is Jersey Mike's any good. Don't want to be too hasty.

If you like subs that are better than Quiznos and Subway, it's solid. But don't expect to be overly satisfied especially with the plethora of amazing sub shops in the area.

My friend so wanted a cheesesteak from Carl's and to his dismay, it was a Jersey (what in the world?) Mike's and the double whammy of it being closed was unfortunate.

Get it together Yankee Stadium.

I like Jersey Mike's just fine. Damn good sandwich.
OK, giving you the benefit of the doubt, I just went to their web site to check, and right there on the front page was a giant Philly cheesesteak so I started to feel a little better. Then I checked their menu pages only to find I'd been betrayed as their "cheesesteak" is made with American cheese.

Cheez Whiz or nothing. Seriously.

Interesting. I had one today. Probably 40 minutes before kickoff. They must have closed right before the game.

The cheesesteak wasn't as good as Carl's. Definitely a cut below. And you don't have an option of what you want.

They all come with Wiz, peppers and onions.

Also no Johnny Rockets

What is in there besides Johnny Rockets (not that I liked it all that much)?

There was additional food vendor turnover. Brother Jimmys took a hike and The Mighty Quinn BBQ showed up. They have a $38 Brontosaurus Rib. A very nice improvement.

Brother Jimmy's always sucked - both in the city and up at the Stadium. Hopefully, this is an improvement. Can't be a downgrade.

I've never had a hot sandwich there. It's not that kind of place. It's got lots of good shit like shredded lettuce and hot relish.

Their coldcuts were tasty from what I remember, too. It's been 10 years or more since I've had one, frankly. Was one of the few places I'd brave West End to grab lunch when I was a law student in Nashville.

I've had their cheesesteak at their 3rd avenue location. It's not bad all thing considered (no steaks outside of Philly ever tastes the same, sort of like no bagel outside of NYC tastes the same). They do have melted fake cheese to make purists happy.

First, they came for my empanadas...
Yeah, this kind of blows. All kidding aside I'm actually a little bummed there's no more Carl's Steaks. Not going to give up my tickets or anything but it was definitely something I looked forward to on home weekends. I was bummed when they closed their "real" stores but it was OK because they were still at the stadium, but now that's gone too.

There's Shorty's, which I've never actually been to, and there's 99 Miles to Philly in the Village, which I don't really like. Any other cheesesteak places I ought to know about in the area?

Might end up having to go to a Union match now and then when we play down there.

That's bad news. Carl's and the noodle bowls were the best foods in the stadium.
Mighty Quinn's is some serious BBQ. Pulled pork sandwich was awesome. They also had a brisket sandwich, a burnt tips sandwich, a bronto rib, and a bunch of southern cooking sides.

I'll have to try it next time I'm at a game. Never had burnt ends, but I've heard good things.
