David Villa Sanchez [Forward]

That leads to the question as to why the hell has he been playing meaningless preseason games to this point

The guy is 33 years old, if he doesn't move, he'll start to get cold.

Best thing for him to do is play with the team, everyone gets better each time they play around him.

Being realistic, regarding his injury record, he probably has only 2 seasons with us anyway. Be happy if he plays 15 games this year, be ecstatic if he plays 20.

How many full 90 minute matches do you think we will get out of him then?

Well, he had a serious injury when he was at Barcelona that took him out for the year. Earlier in his career at Valencia, he had another injury, I'm not really sure what, its been a while. I think he'll be fit for the first part of the season, he seems to the type of player where the "red zone" minutes count the most.

"Red Zone" is what trainers refer to as consecutive games before they suffer from a major injury.

So is he out the rest of the preseason as a precaution?

This is so sad. David despite being 33 still has a lot to give to any team- I did wonder when he sustained the injury at a friendly around 3 years ago how it would affect his performance and talent. Playing at AtleticoMadrid, he had recuperated his form and was playing topnotch.
David you still are one hell of a striker. NYCFC fans love you and we are rooting for you.

The injury makes sense because I noticed during the Brondby game, he'd easily lose the ball and give up on the play. And it remember him pressing hard last year at ATM.

Am I reading too much into it or is that a jab at Lampard? Why wouldn't Villa want to be here? Seems like something that shouldn't have to be said unless it's referring to something else (Lampard).

A Lots of the players have said that about Villa. He seems to be the clear leader of the team, and yeah it is a bit of a shot of Lampard but it seems to be a thing the whole team is saying.

I do think it's a jab. And honestly if I was a player, I'd also feel some type of way. Your decision undermined and humiliated the club I'll be playing for, its fans, turned away people, probably caused people to attack me on social media and turned what could have been one of the best inaugural seasons into a sideshow.

It's partially a shot at Lampard, but from everything I've read Villa really wants to be here. It's easy for a player at his level to take a DP contract and be ok with the situation, but Villa seems to go above and beyond with really being passionate about NYC. He's said how important it was for him to be the first player signed to NYCFC and other players have made similar comments about his enthusiasm. The guy will bleed blue and is perfect to be our first captain.
