I don't disagree at all, but the question that interests me is what it is about particular matches that lets him be so influential while in others he is less relevant which makes his deficiencies seem all the more pronounced.
One reading (based on a small sample size) is that he plays best in a 3-2-2-3. Another reading is that he plays best with Bravo next to him. Yet another reading is that he plays best with a defensive midfielder next to him. One thing we haven't yet tried is 4-3-3 with somebody next to Pirlo and one central attacking midfielder ahead of them both.

Johansen
Iraola Bravo Brillant Matarrita
Mix Pirlo
Tommeh
Mendoza Villa Tony

Brillant for Hernandez because I'm not sure Hernandez plays well when he's not just man-marking a dude. 1 striker (the norm nowadays) passing off between two center backs seems to trouble him. Brillant because of the threat on corners and the ability he showed on the ball in preseason (I know, I know, it's preseason). I haven't seen enough of White, but Bravo has earnt a spot. Mix alongside Pirlo because of his distribution and ability to cover the field.

Could work?

Could definitely work. However, I'm sure Mix will be getting forward quite a lot.

Would be interested to see how PV would want this team to play defensively, and what kind of role TMac would have in that. If its less of a responsibility, I would like to see Poku there. However, I'm hoping HeWhoShouldNotBeNamed can finally take that spot.

Thank god we have a full lineup back. Last game was a bit miserable. I do think we will play better away than at home. Hopefully PV catches on that the formation isn't suitable to our field. We look great attacking up the middle but anything down the wings has been dreadful.

For once, I was quick enough on the Cityzens portal and got into the city send off after the Fire game. I know it's going to be late, but whatevs! For the people who've done it, what's the best thing to bring for them to sign and how many things will they sign? I was thinking of bringing a soccerball and maybe one more item if they will do 2.

I did it after the Revs match this past weekend, and it was awesome, albeit a little crowded. Not terribly crowded, but enough that if you get there late, you'll find yourself reaching over one person or wedging yourself in.

As to whats best to sign;
-Home kit/ practice shirt/ something light for clothing items
-Plastic NYCFC sign similar to one here
-Soccer balls are also good, but try to buy a white one or lighter one, similar to shirts.

The reason for the lighter colors is that an NYCFC rep will be handing out black sharpies to the players as they come down (you also don't need to worry about bringing your own). Makes it easier for the player instead of having to exchange a sharpie each signature.

Since the players have a ton of people to sign things for, they usually only do one thing per person. One or two players, earlier on, will possibly sign two things, but that's also on the player. I got Pirlo to sign a scarf for a friend as well as my kit, but it didn't come out well at all to be honest due to the softness of the scarf.

He kind of haunted us in the opener if I remember correctly.
I don't expect Johansen to start, does anyone else?

If they have the white names and numbers in the team store this Sunday I'm forking over $200 for a Johansen jersey. Hopefully with the closeness I am to Vieira, he'll get the idea it's time for a goalie change.

I pray for Johansen to start every night along with my Mix hat trick prayers.

-----------Saunders-----------
Iraola-Hernandez-Matarrita
--------Bravo---Pirlo----------
---------Mix---TMac----------
---Shelton-Villa-Taylor------

Even though we got 1 point from 2 games with this team i thought those were our 2 best games, just couldnt finish our chances..

PV has shown that he likes continuity. I think you're right that he will go back to the lineup as it was before the international break disrupted it. However, I suspect (fear) that we will see Martinez in for the injured Matarrita.

The question then for me if Mata is out, is does PV think Diego can play in a 3 man backline? Or does he revert to a 4-3-3 with true fullbacks?

When we saw Martinez last game, he dropped Bravo back to CB and we played more of a 3 man backline.

If PV does go back to a 4-3-3, who plays the other CB spot with Hernandez? I know PV dropped Bravo back last game, and thats an option, but perhaps that was so he didn't burn another sub so early in the game. He may prefer another true CB back there rather than Bravo.

I'm just speculating a lot.

That's the thing, we've looked great with this lineup but haven't been able to finish. They just have to finish their chances and we could be putting away 4 goals a game easily.

I like this lineup and I think it could potentially work very well. But to make a corny baseball reference, to throw a curve ball into this system you have to put in this guy. image.jpegSo which formation works best with him in it?

I just don't see the point of speculating about him until there is a clear indication he's ready to play.
