Started again at St Pauli yesterday![]()
And he's been doing pretty decently. I checked various ratings online and he's on the lower end of player ratings - but still pretty good. Hopefully he can keep them up and maybe even get a transfer to there or somewhere else? That would be cool. He's staring and he's playing his preferred position of CDM. Glad he's found a spot to play his game, that CB in a 3 back during his time at Rangers always seemed like a poor use for him and didn't set him up to succeed.
St. Pauli moved James to LCB for the 2nd half -- the positional flexibility is going to help his chances with the USMNT, but he was a bit out of synch with the rest of the back line, which is to be expected for a first half in that position. He's staring and he's playing his preferred position of CDM. He was really good against Leipzig. It was noticed, too. According to Fotmob, he got either the highest or second-highest player rating for St. Pauli.![]()
ASN: After a strong start with St. Pauli, Sands discusses move to Germany & USMNT ambitions
James Sands recently made a loan move from New York City to St. Pauli in the Bundesliga. On Wednesday, the Rye native spoke about the move, his first few games, and his international ambitions moving forward.www.americansoccernow.com
We probably recall the loan immediately and book an end of season injury hit for Sands so we get the full roster relief rather than just half a season.
Terrible for Jimmy.
Not great for NYCFC either. He’s injured, unlikely to be purchased, and I guess his contract probably comes back on our books midseason whether he’s available or not.
I’m tired of these loans. The only successful one was Taty to Girona I think. Every other either ends up with the player returning or, like Mitrita, Talles and others, just seem to go on indefinitely with no prospect of resolution until the contract ends. What even is the endgame for the Jovan loan? Do we reasonably hope he comes back able to help, or prefer a sale, and what price are we willing to take if the latter?
That would be the intelligent move yesWe probably recall the loan immediately and book an end of season injury hit for Sands so we get the full roster relief rather than just half a season.
Geez..

Yeah I forgot about that option. Much less bad for the team; still terrible for him.We probably recall the loan immediately and book an end of season injury hit for Sands so we get the full roster relief rather than just half a season.
