sounds like from berhalter's comments that NYCFC wont be selecting any players from Crew SC in the expansion draft. This seems like a nice pick up, young defender with plenty of experience

I just think you aren't going to get a spotless player in any of these acquisition mechanisms. So you are either going to get questionable talent, or you can try to get better talent with some injury risk.

His flexibility is a real asset here. When you're starting up a new club, you really need versatile guys who can cover for you. You're not going to be able to pull up a guy from the youth academy or reserves, so being able to plug a hole with a guy comfortable with the lineup is a huge asset.

Yeah, in all these mechanisms, their former team is letting them go for a reason. You take one a bunch of these players and hope that either the downside doesn't add up or that you can complement the players to hide their weaknesses, including injury issues.

For what its worth, most Crew fans seem to have a high opinion of Williams based on what i've seen.
