Justin Mapp Becomes The First Free Agency Signing In Mls History.

Nice signing. The good teams just get better.
I, literally, came here to post the same thing word for word.

The rich get richer. Great signing, he was a very important cog in Montreal's run to the CCL final.

A signing worthy of the historic moment.

I sort of wish we got him, but our home pitch and team aren't ready for wide play.
Signings like Mapp or Urruti are the type of signings we need to make. Talented guys that want to be here, in this league.

I get CFG are supremely confident in their EDS guys but if they keep sending some EDS guys for just a year, or half year, and pulling them away, it's never going to work.

Tell that to CFG and PV. I'm thinking they don't care too much.

i think the EDS usage that gives us the best advantage is to set a team with as strong an XI as we can, and neglect depth. If someone gets hurt, bring over an EDS guy. At least in the beginning, it allows us to narrow our focus while still competing

Problem is, I doubt PV brings EDS guys here for anything other than first team minutes.

Until our academy starts producing, we have to depend on the EDS to get talent we wouldn't have access to even if it's a year at a time. Worst case scenario, if they don't make it in the prem, they may look at us as an option.

I get it, but so far it looks its just sample material with guys like Facey and Angelino coming in for a bit, starting full time and then gone. Its not good for this roster's chemistry.

Can you imagine a Sporting KC squad with: Dom Dwyer, Graham Zusi, Mike McGee, Benny Feilhaber, Justin Mapp, Matt Besler, and Erik Palmer-Brown? We know they're chasing some big DP signings, too.

They're in CCL next year. Wouldn't surprise me if they win it all.

Good things like this are going to happen when they realize NYC fans are a little more sophisticated and knowledgeable and don't need to have the "name" players at the ends of their careers coming to Yankee Stadium.

I think you are way overvaluing Mike McGee. I know he's a big name because he was the MVP one season but that was a considerable outlier. Outside of that one year he's been mediocre at best. He's 31 at this point and missed a ton of games due to injuries over the last two seasons. He has one very valuable skill in that he positions himself well to poach goals off of scraps. Other than that he's a below average dribbler, he's not athletic, he's too short to be a target in the air and he spends the whole game crying to the ref. KC can have him, I hope he stays as far away from NYCFC as possible.

OUR academy won't be producing anything for a very long time. It's a process and so far we only have a U14 team.

I highly doubt that they will be able to win the CCL with or without the roster you mentioned. It's always going to be an uphill battle for MLS teams when they have a salary cap and are arguably less talented than the Liga MX teams who can spend as much money as they want on players.

However, that lineup might do some serious damage in MLS.

In 2012 maybe

Our second disadvantage in CCL is our season structure. During the knockout phase of the tournament, MLS is just getting underway with the season while the rest of CONCACAF is already in full-swing on theirs.
