Markup For Nycfc Gear At Yankee Stadium

I've notice that a lot of items at the stores at Yankee Stadium are marked up from their prices online even on the NYCFC site. A bought the sweatshirt that goes for $80 online (and sold out) for $90 at the team store. It even had another price tag on top of the old one. Most of the t-shirts are $30. The ones with the players names with the Etihad logo on front are $38.

Even with the 10% discount, we are still being charged more than other sites. It's a bit ridiculous.

me and my friends motto "you spent $365 for tickets, whats another (x amount) of money"

You will see the exact same phenomenon during Yankees games, and just about every other top pro venue in the US. I can get a Heineken for a little over a dollar at the liquor store but it is marked up at the stadium.

Noticed that as well. My friend has a weird superstition about wearing team gear to a game so he stopped at Modells and picked up a Villa shirt for $22 before the game. In Yankees Stadium they were $38.

Agreed - and it is a fact of life - I think the bummer comes in when the website is reading constantly sold out - for example if heinekein sold their beers via their website or at the heinekein stadium (where I would assume you watch beer fest like events, or the german version of the bud bowl) and the website read sold out - no heinekein available ever again, but they had plenty at the stadium.

Yes I understand it's capitalism - and for that reason I just buy white t-shirts and write names of players on them with sharpies - no I don't do that -

That being said I did buy a few nycfc pins off the website - I like putting them on my bag and hat.

I don't think your analogy is a good one. Food and merchandise are different things. The merchandise has a set retail price and is sold by the club online at that price. In 30 years of active sporting event attendance I have NEVER before seen an in-venue markup on readily available product that the team sells elsewhere at suggested retail. Although it would not surprise me to be told that the Yankees do it at the stadium as well.

I would be very surprised if other MLS teams do this.

Agreed. The premium for onsite consumables should not cross over to wearables. I just got back from Disney World which is designed to Hoover your cash. Food, drinks and alcohol have high markups but clothing costs the same as local stores or website.
