MLS - August 9 - Columbus (CF)

I’m at the Met game today. Got talking to an employee by the Stengel gate about this Saturday's game. He said “eh they’re talking about it. It’s iffy”.

It has to be because of the grass. It’s horrible. But this person is also excited about the stadium and has their deposit for Ethiad Park.

I'm sure the Mets want to replace the grass, and having an NYCFC game wouldn't allow them to do it until after the following Mets homestand. But if they're still talking about it, seems hard to believe the Mets would pull that trigger on such short notice. Unless they're trying to reschedule the game for later in the season, but the only time you're rescheduling for is October, which as we know isn't really feasible considering the season the Mets are having.

I feel this is acting in bad faith by the Mets. There's certainly another days on the calendar they can replace the grass. Wonder what that would mean for any parking agreement in the future.

I think if they were going to move this game to another location but play this coming weekend, they needed to have announced by now. I get that there's no real lower limit to what they can get away with but I also think they realize people need time to plan alternate transport options.
But I don't think it's too late to postpone. The issue there is whether there is a open date to book an appropriate venue.

I imagine it would be rescheduled for October and we'd have to wait for a stadium in case the Yankees or Mets get bounced early.

The problem is they have a homestand every other week so if they don't do it this week, they have to wait another homestand to do it. I can't imagine a scenario in which this impacts any kind of parking agreement. If there really is a problem with Saturday's game, it seems like a one-off issue.

I wonder if the team is holding back announcing anything as it needs to figure out how to compensate Columbus, as the team and their away fans have booked flights and hotels in the NYC.
I confess I did not even think of Away fans. It's really too late to change. But as I said earlier, there's probably no limit to what they can get away with.

If the game goes forward as scheduled, there will be no announcement denying the rumors. Assuming no news, at what point do we confidently believe it is not changing? I'm thinking Thursday afternoon, more or less.
