MLS Cup Playoffs - Knockout Round - 2017

This is what happened to Chicago.

Brandon Vincent missed 8 straight starts beginning with the NYC game.
Meira was injured 3 weeks later and missed a month
Polster was hurt in August.
That's 75% of the backline gone coinciding with the start of their slide.

When the backline got healthy, Schweinsteiger was hurt and played a combined 123 minutes in September and October including last night.
de Leeuw got hurt on Sept 30 against us and played 0 minutes in October, depriving Nikolic and Accam of service.
Accam has been playing with a bad hip and will have surgery soon.

That game may have also proved that schweinsteiger wasn’t going to win all their games for them.

One thing to remember about that game was that McCarty didn’t play. Would have been a different game were he healthy.
FWIW, my brother who lives in Chicago and is a Fire fan prefers Mihailovic to Schweini in their starting XI.

By the way, does anyone else think the first Red Fools goal last night was offsides?

I am watching the replay, and Stuart Holden is pronouncing BWP onside, and I am thinking I must be crazy since it looks to me like his leg is clearly past the last defender.

Then on Instant Replay, Borg shows the same replay and also says he looks onside. Then Borg introduces the analysis by the guy who triangulates everything, and that guy said BWP was 3" off. But Borg still says he wouldn't have overturned.

The prospect of people being annoyed that VAR doesn't "fix" a 3-inch offsides no-call is exactly why I hate VAR.

I was more annoyed that nobody else seemed to notice it live - or more accurately, that everyone else seemed to think he was on - wouldn't even say it was close or questionable. It's actually more than 3" because the Soccer Photogrammetry guy used a frame that is after the ball is away. Look at the picture below. It seems rather obvious to me.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I didn't see it live, just the highlight, but heard Holden on it and I really wasn't certain.

I didn't look at any stills or slow-motion replays, but it did look super close and the above confirms that at least. I'm surprised it wasn't looked at with VAR at least.

I thought it was a 50/50 myself. Made harder because BWP was moving back when the ball was hit. By the time he finished the step he was onside, but the ball was struck midstep. Very tough. And apart from any rooting interest, when it's close -- like 3" close -- I want the goal to count. I really wanted Chicago to win last night, but even if this is called back I don't see that happening so I can afford to be gracious.

Live, it looked a bad call. But I can live with it.

I agree with you and sbrylski
