MLS - March 14 - Colorado (YS)

I really like the call-response on goals but there isn't great buy-in from the fans anymore. It's player dependent -- if it's a guy everyone knows or has an easy name, everyone does it. If it's not, too many people just don't do it.

The H/A adjusted ppg of our opponents to date is just 0.33 which again has no real salience but it's laughably low. A slightly less meaningless number is that the H/A PPG of our future opponents is just 1.15. I didn't think it was possible for both numbers to be so low but I guess it is because there are just 8 teams besides us with PPG of 2.0 or higher. 7 of those are in the West and even though we play 3 of them that still leaves just 5 games total against teams that good. Of course that's as of now and that will change.
Yes I think it's tough not to get ahead of ourselves right now, but we have faced some pretty poor opposition so far this season. Philly and Orlando both stink. Colorado isn't quite as bad, but they're not threatening to win MLS Cup. I think the Miami game, even if Messi doesn't play, should be a much better barometer of where we stand.

When Nico scores the first name||last name call response just fails because we have not collectively decided whether to say Fernandez or Fernandez Mercau and so it just sounds like 20k people mumbling.
I blame Joe Tolleson a bit for that. In the first home match, the normal PA announcer, Mark Fratto said, "Nico Fernandez" and the crowd responded "Mercau". In this game, Joe Tolleson just said "Nico".

Yeah. The Rapids took their wins over the Galaxy 4 pts in 4 games and Timbers 3 points in 4. Last week I checked and almost all the top 8-10 teams have had pretty easy schedules.

We need to get the stadium announcer on board. Otherwise it's "That New York City goal was scored by Nico. . . . . . .NICO!"

In the first game they said Nico Fernandez ... and everyone chanted in with Mercau. My brother and I both said 'wow, that works a lot better this year.' Clearly, we lost the plot this game.

Also, almost everything has been covered gamewise by now, but in the second half Maxi had a few beautiful touch passes close to or in the box. Unfortunate to not get another goal off of one.

It's fun to be good early in the season!

We also need to win against a team that defends deep and forces us to break them down to score. O'neil and Parks are playing exceptional right now, Colorado played right into our strengths by trying to battle for the midfield. Our Kryptonite for years have been the teams that give us all the possession we want and make us prove we can do something with it.

He was all over the pitch last night. Every time we were doing something he was involved. Continues to be breathtaking to watch. How is he still this good at 39?

Maybe I'm comparing 2026 early season Maxi with fresh legs to late 2025 Maxi, or maybe I'm just wrong, but he seems to have regained the step he lost.

Agreed Maxi looks better, but it seems inevitable that he will end the season the same way if they pile minutes on him again like they did last year.

Since Nico looks capable of holding down the #9 till Alonso gets back with Magno and Reid as a backups, maybe the current search for an attacker should be more focused on finding a guy that can play CAM and winger.

By the name of Maxi Carrizo? If we think he's the future, shouldn't we be giving him more minutes?

He doesn't look ready to me, plays hard but looks like he's pressing when he's subbed on. We need a starter level player to help rotate Maxi, Wolf and Ojeda. If Pascal thought Carrizo was close to being ready to start I think we'd see him subbing on more often.

I think signing another No. 10 would be shortsighted when that's Nico's primary position and it's where he'll play when Maxi retires (presumably after this season but maybe not?). We already have a No. 10 who can also play winger. Apparently he can play striker, too.
