MLS - March 22 - Miami (YS)

I’m super salty right now. Trying to cool my jets at Stan’s while I wait for the plastic hordes to disperse. I thought the boys deserved a point, between the St. Clair amnesty, the bullshit card that Messi shithoused off of Maxi before the FK, the suspiciously prompt enforcement of 96’ and the fact that the last goal looked off from my seat on the 6 and wasn’t even reviewed.

Really the only beef I have with our boys today is WTF was that wall on the FK. That’s on Pascal. Just weird.

On the plus side we proved that we could ball with the best. We haven’t just been feasting on weak competition. This was a slug fest. All 5 of our southern hemisphere starters showed up today in a big way. And Nico in particular is a treasure. Raise your hand if you had ever heard of him before we signed him.
Never mind. Just watched the replay and goal 3 was on. Just weak-is marking.

P.S. my seat neighbor and I were remarking in the 1H that Messi seems extra animated today. Def more active and aggressive that in previous NYC matches

They just got bounced out of the competition that they were supposed to win. The league darling needs to save face and we happened to unfortunately be the Washington generals in their way.

Slowed down, better angle.

That to me is a clear 100% penalty. Not even a doubt in my mind. Wtf.
The ball is clearly going in this area and he pulls him down by the neck (no “incidental contact”). Clear penalty.

Can’t wait for instant reply with Wiebe “I’m not sure that is clear and obvious to me, just looks like incidental contact” lol

During the game I saw the ref signal to the VAR on the side of the pitch after the St. Clair incident. I thought he made a partial square VAR sign, then made a wave off signal, then mimic a throw. I interpreted this to mean he was saying there could not be a review because play restarted when St. Clair threw the ball back into play.
Looking up the rules, I don't think that can be right because I don't think the stoppage can't be same act as the potential offense. But I'm only 80-90% sure and maybe the ref was wrong.
But I also note that keeper handling is only reviewable if it is a red card and it's only a red if it is DOGSO. Ojeda had a man on his shoulder who was even pulling ahead when St. Clair caught the ball so probably not DOGSO.

The Messi reffing bias happens to every team that plays Miami outside of LAFC, it's not right but its just a given at this point. Thought the team looked good, I continue to be impressed with O'niel this season. Great to see Ojeda put that goal away at full speed with precision, thats real improvement from him. Happy to see Shore get a solid chunk of time, hopefully we continue to see him off the bench consistently.

Yeah, I mentioned that in the chat. It was nice to finally see someone chip the ball in that situation rather than trying to power drive it past the keeper.

Couldn't watch live but just saw the highlights. Our two goals were gorgeous. Simply spectacular.

From the 10-minute highlight package it didn't feel like we were terrible. Probably unlucky to lose the game.

The highlights didn't show the St. Clair moment (shocker) or the clear penalty on Nico (shocker) ... the friendly whistle Miami gets is a stain on this league.
