MLS - March 7 - Orlando (YS)

Watching the highlights and the sweet sweet tones of Ian come on, how much have we missed his enthusiasm and you can tell he still loves this team.

I was also thinking about the final goal where the defender yakked it right up to Keaton and I started thinking “oh say it Ian, say the line”

We get to the goal and immediately: “HES GOT TO DO BETTER THERE” and I crack up.

Never change Ian. One of us. #HAVEIT

Really cranky about the traín situation today. Never made it to the stadium and they ring up 5 and a clean sheet. I’ve now missed all but two of our home openers but this is the first one of those that I was in town for.

Ojeda was my MOTM last week. This week Parks and Nico and Maxi were also all contenders. Also thought Carrizo showed very well today.

And it was nice to see them being killer Pigeons. So often we don’t keep the boot on the neck.

Just really bummed I couldn’t get there. Though it was great to have Ian on the mic.
Trains sucked. I was late and then had to leave early to take a plethora of trains to get to MNR 125th St. brutal today.

My MOTM was Crepeau.

I'm not throwing cold water but wow, we've scored 7 goals up a man and just 1 at even strength. To be fair, almost half of our minutes have been up a man, and even at full strength you usually score more late than early. So again, I'm not diminishing the accomplishment, but I'd like to see what the team can do in normal game play. But I'll take the points, please and thank you.

Also, what is wrong with Orlando this year? Last year they had 53 points and a +12 GD. So far this year they have 3 losses and a -8 GD.

So far this year they have 3 losses and a -8 GD.

ever since his injury, crepeau has never been the same. his handball today was simply baffling.

orlando sold off their star striker and long time keeper, along with transferring a couple other long time players. doesn't seem like the new roster has gelled enough to put a good performance together. Though, they did play pretty well against miami... until they fell apart.

I can’t disagree. A part of me was almost disappointed when they went down to ten because we had been looking pretty good (and Orlando pretty poor) and I knew we weren’t going to learn much from then on. OTOH I guess we did see a killer instinct, which hasn’t always been there, so that was nice.

And like you say, three points, always feels good!

Really good performance tonight. We easily could have been up a man already before Crepeau's boner, which tells me Orlando was behind it from the kick. Otávio's challenge on Nico easily could have been a red, too.

Yeah, the Lions are a mess, but hey, you can only play who's in front of you, and we kicked their asses.

I think we can safely check Trewin's box. Agu may have turned the corner — he was terrific again tonight. And how good was it to see Keaton turn in such a shift? Having him healthy and in form is huge.

Talles Magno, on the other hand, did nothing with his opportunity. I don't see him displacing any wingers, and when he played centrally, he looked like he was in a different game.

ojeda looked good today, but as you said, orlando simply were not good.

I won't be convinced ojeda has "turned a corner" until he can put in consistent performances against good teams. But, I will of course give credit where it's due. He played well today. Was aggressive and confident and a constant threat. Never thought I would see him pull off a double scissor to take on a defender in a game. It takes confidence to do that and I'm happy to see it. I am hopeful he continues to improve and develop into a constant wing threat that we absolutely NEED.

Agreed on magno. I was very disappointed. Tbh he looks kind of disinterested and not really "bought in", if that makes sense. Shame because I really enjoyed his development prior to the #9 experiment and was hopeful he would have something to prove now that he's back. But instead, he just seems to be biding his time until he gets sent back to brazil (most likely).

EDIT: watched jansen's post game presser. last question was about magno. he said magno is just out of shape and not capable of playing 90 mins and he's working his way back. is this just an excuse to protect magno? can't imagine he's been through a whole pre-season and he's still not fit to run for 90 mins? it's also a sign of lack of motivation imo.

I had the same read on Talles Magno. He just looks ... checked out. Is he confused? Or does he just not like Pascal's system?

Or is he just not capable of playing in Pascal's system? He may have looked bad because he is bad now. That would be a shame if it's true, and I don't know if it is, but it's something Dunivant and Jansen are going to have to assess, and quickly.

Magno looks like Magno, I'm kind of surprised by all the what's up with Magno comments. This is him, we watched him do this for over a year. He said it in an interview as soon as he got to Brazil, he doesn't like the speed and physicality of MLS and he doesn't think it's a good fit for his game. The only success he ever had in MLS happened when he got to play next to Taty running around like a crazy man keeping the entire defense busy.

Good confidence booster for the offense but Orlando is a terrible team so not much to take from it. I'm impressed with how close this team appears to be. Everyone on the team was so happy for Ojeda when he scored, same with the Keaton goals.

I really like Trewin at CB and the Oneil/Parks double pivot, all 3 played exceptional today. O'toole also looks sharper this year and move explosive in his attacking movements.

Need more Sky Scraper. I brought my 8 year old niece and she really wanted to see him/her (I have no idea if it has a gender) in the crowd but we didn’t see it during the match.

that is a shame! seems sky scraper did push the button for the steam stacks but should have definitely threw them into the supporters section for some wild times on the big screen.. maybe leading a cheer or something. if not that, have him walking around the concourse taking pics and stuff. would have been great for the kids!

Magno looks like Magno, I'm kind of surprised by all the what's up with Magno comments. This is him, we watched him do this for over a year. Fair assessment of Talles Magno, although to my eyes the dribbling skills he once featured seem to be diminished. That's independent of Taty's influence on the game flow. So, there may be a regression there. Whatever the case, he doesn't seem up for it.

Total agreement on Trewin and the O'Neill/Parks double pivot. We were so mobile and effective. Really great to see.

Sky Scraper was on the field for a while during the pre-game, even took its hat off during the national anthem. And then pressed the smoke stacks. Great mascot energy, and the design looks really fun in person. It probably should have hung out some more once the game started.

Anyone know why the Ruppert garage was closed today and whether that’s going to continue?
