Steve Cangialosi was the voice of Sports Phone in the 1980s ("For all the sports news instantly dial 976-1313")* and a NY institution. I will not stand for him being impugned.**
* This was the internet for sports, pre-internet. It cost a dime, later a quarter, every time you called.
** Yeah, really who cares. But I do have fond memories.
It's pretty standard in baseball. You will often see the home announcer doing the Fox games, especially for secondary matches. The marquee match for ESPN is the Cascadia match coming up next so the typical guys (Twellman and Healey?) are out there. ESPN has publicly stated in recent months that they are looking at cost cuts for live games, doing more in Bristol so they can pay less people to travel to games. By hiring the RB guy, they can probably pay him a pretty small day rate and not have to pay for his flight, food, hotels and such. The MSG announcer for the Red Bulls is calling their name for ESPN. That seems biased.
yeah. No interactivity. They just read a bunch of scores, and sometimes game situations "Yankees are losing 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth but have men on 1st and 2nd with no outs." Updated every 5-10 minutes when games were live and I think every 20 during the rest of the day. They had a moviefone for sports scores? I may be 22 but I do remember moviefone.
Crap. Was hoping for NJRB collapse so at least NE could tie the game. Kudos though to Robles, 133 games and counting.
And that's the last I'll ever compliment NJRB.
Yeah that was bull shit.I'd like to see him suspended for that shove towards the end of the game. He's clearly on the ground nursing an injury then jolts up and shoves an NE player when play is dead then proceeds to fall back on the floor.
Because he's good. I hated to see him go, but I hated to see him on the bench. Happy that he is getting to play somewhere.DCU leads Chicago 3-2 at the half. Mullins with a brace. What's that, 4 since he's left?
Nap time. Somebody wake me before NYCFC game time....Portland scores their 4th of the day...
They had all sorts of 976 numbers. There was one for the time so you could set your watch, one for the weather, one for horse racing results, etc. They had a moviefone for sports scores? I may be 22 but I do remember moviefone.
Nap time. Somebody wake me before NYCFC game time....
Thx.WAKE UP! Seattle has scored their 2nd! It's 4-2 with 40 minutes left!
