I was surprised TMac got the armband over Ring last night
The weirdest part is when they announced the starting 11, they announced Ring as the captain, so when Tmac had it, we were super confused.I was surprised TMac got the armband over Ring last night
Yeah, right!?! Very surprising!I was surprised TMac got the armband over Ring last night
I wasn't. Tommy is the team's most senior armband choice after Villa. I think he wore it in 2015 when Villa missed games. Lately others have done so because he rarely starts. I might have expected Ring to wear it, but not to the point of surprise it went otherwise. This is not the only sign that McNamara is well- regarded in the clubhouse (and probably in management), beyond his on-field contributions. I expect him to remain with the team in some capacity -- coaching, player development -- when he retires.I was surprised TMac got the armband over Ring last night
I mean I am surprised TMac was chosen to start the game as captain. I know that he has previously been the vice-captain, but that was more when he was a regular starter. As Ulrich said, it just seems weird to me that a guy who rarely gets minutes anymore would still be chosen as captain, especially when you have guys like Ring and Maxi also startingYou mean when TMac started the game? or when he put the armband on Ring when he was substituted out?*
* - those are some big triceps.
Curious if you watched the replay and still feel the same. That was a penalty on McNamara. If he dragged or slowed down it wasn't much and he was dinged for being big and slow. Players who weigh 140 -155 and scoot around the field do exactly what he did and get that call every day and twice on Sunday.
SoupInNYC pushed me to look again and convinced me.Curious if you watched the replay and still feel the same.
He should have gotten a penalty because he shouldn’t have gone down early. As it was, it didn’t chase the ball far enough. You have to let the keeper get you as you go by, not before you reach him.
I still don't think that should have been a yellow for simulation, based on how that is often officiated.SoupInNYC pushed me to look again and convinced me.

Don't forget Ballouchy is back, too. What are Jacobson and Jeb doing these days?Play by play guy with Wingert? What a broadcast team! Norris can be behind the camera. It's like our own version of Anchorman.
Wasn’t he our out ball? I hate that 11 men behind the ball and chase it. If he stays up, that’s at least two opposing players who can’t fully commit to the attack.Lewis certainly injects energy. I didn't like his work ethic though later in the match. Guys like Medina we're still pressing and Lewis was kind of hanging around. Chase. The. Fucking. Ball. Until. The. Final. Whistle. I can't stand that. Villa wouldr scissor kicked him.
wish it was red and a 25 game suspension.I still don't think that should have been a yellow for simulation, based on how that is often officiated.
Yeah, Lewis was tied to the sideline, almost invisible, because Montreal would forget about him and leave him unmarked. Once he got the ball he had a ton of room to atttack and get up to speed. I seriously doubt he was tasked with being part of the defensive press unless the ball was in his zone. It’s not laziness, it’s tactics.Wasn’t he our out ball? And the right answer is Callens takes it. Come on, guys.
(But Maxi would take it for real, 100%)
Also, that shot Lewis took that went off the post was fantastic. Well taken.Yeah, Lewis was tied to the sideline, almost invisible, because Montreal would forget about him and leave him unmarked. I have a new favorite person in these BTS videos, namely the young woman starting at 5:08, sitting 2 rows in front of the marriage proposal, and who wants no part of it while everyone around her is totally hyped by it.

ETA: Bonus: she wears a Lampard jersey. This is everything.

#1 this man is a tactical savant! When he explains the switch at the half to play two false 9s side by side after his 3 forward approach didn’t work in the first half and why, it’s somethng special.
#2 he finally explains why Jonah doesn’t start. Apparently he has issues defending deep. But they are working on it with him. Holy shit! We got an actual explanation about why a player isn’t getting the playing time we would expect based on performance!!!! I hope the club doesn’t pull him aside and tell him to stop being so forthcoming with information for the fan base. This man is a godsend. Bless the rains.
