Would be the funniest/saddest thing if we brought someone in to be a long-term replacement for Maxi and he only stays a year, and never actually plays that role because (1) we just keep re-signing Maxi and (2) he has to play pseudo-striker for the better part of a year.

Also we signed him at 25, on the cusp of prime career age but past prime selling age. FWIW according to TransferMarkt we overpaid. I realize that's far from dispositive but how much are we going to make even if they're wrong? I guess I'm saying I'm cautiously, maybe very cautiously, optimistic he stays. It could be more cost effective to give him a pay bump rather than sell and try to buy someone else.

If he keeps playing this well the offers will start coming in, but that source is bs. They said we were signing some winger from Norway for $10mm earlier in the window.

Would be disappointing if he left but I could understand the case for it if they get a massive offer. The buy/sell model would be fine if they didn't take so long to find a replacement every time. If their model is going to be this revolving door approach they need to be a lot faster to backfill both the successful transfers like Santi and the failures like Jovan.
