A-ha! I tried copy/paste and then the fancy HTML embed links on the gif sites, but none worked. Simple download, upload. I get it.
I try to embed if I can make it work to relieve the load on Dan's servers, but when the embed codes fail, this is the go to solution.A-ha! I tried copy/paste and then the fancy HTML embed links on the gif sites, but none worked. Simple download, upload. I get it.
1-1
NYCFC wins 4-3 in penalties
Santi
Some Pumas forward that I need to look up on their roster
You actually gave me hope in the chat last night when you said you also predicted 1-1 but with an NYCFC win. Alas.i tried, folks, I really tried. And hey, Santi did score a goal last night, oh wait…

miss this one badly - just like half of our penalty takersWould have been happy to miss this one badly. Should have been missed badly.
I don't think many people disagree. But I don't see a consensus forming on the best acceptable alternative.Penalties are a stupid way to decide a game. There. I said it.

Extra innings. Just keep playing. At least for the two 15-minute periods. At least give the teams a chance to score a "natural" goal.I don't think many people disagree. But I don't see a consensus forming on the best acceptable alternative.
I seriously can't tell - satire? Or do you mean it. Even I can't go for this though the idea that you reward attacking has appeal.if goals normally decide games, then when it can't be goals, then xG should decide it. that way, victory favors the team who actually attacked. better for the sport!
i realize this punishes good defensive teams who make their fewer chances count, but still better than PKs imho
A time honored tradition, that itself lacks consensus. Some confeds use it, others don't and I think CONCACAF uses it in some competitions but not others. And if that's the purpose you need to add sudden death. Playing 30 extra minutes and ending up back in PKs even though goals were scored is the worst of all possible results, and I don't know of any major competition that allows the first ET goal to end things. And honestly, the idea of extending last night an additional 30 minutes is, oof.Extra innings. Just keep playing. At least for the two 15-minute periods. I'm going to defend kicks from the mark (technically different from PKs in that you can score off rebounds on a PK while you can't in kicks from the mark).
Penalties are a unique skill that some players surprisingly have (Sands), and some players surprisingly don't (Maxi). It's not just the technical skill to put the ball in the net, but it's also a test of mental strength after 90-120 minutes of playing all-out. It takes tremendous skill to save a PK too, so the keepers finally get a chance to shine too. There's no better feeling as a keeper than saving a PK.
I think it's glorious and that there's almost nothing in sports as tense and dramatic as penalty shootouts. You could argue that it's not the best test of team skill, as penalties are almost purely individual skill. But the drama outweighs it for me.
They arguably take the best elements S sabertooth36 listed about the current system while adding in a touch more of standard play soccer skills.bring back old style MLS shootouts!
100% agree. They aren't fair from a team perspective, but the adrenaline, anxiety, and chaos behind them are unmatched in anything else. Their physical limits were tested for 90 minutes, now lets test their mentality.I'm going to defend kicks from the mark (technically different from PKs in that you can score off rebounds on a PK while you can't in kicks from the mark).
