I will be pretty fucking disappointed if 45K New Yorkers show up and 2/3 root against their home team, but judging from the number of pink jerseys I see around town, maybe I shouldn’t expect anything else.

Yeah...another Villa 3 - BWP 2 result would be best for the fans and club with Villa now being Martinez and BWP being Messi.

But yeah, every time Messi touches the ball, it will be a roar. Expect it to be an away match in terms of fandom. Who knows who will even be in the supporters' section? I remember during MLS Cup in Portland, The Timbers Army section isn't what it normally is because people didn't get their usual seats. New people are buying, people are selling. It's a mess.

There's going to be a ton of Messi fans. Which is fine. Hopefully the local Messi fans can be swayed into attending NYCFC games in the future. This is a chance to increase the size of the team's fandom.
