Princeton Study Concludes Usa Is Not A Democracy

It's what most Americans have been saying for years. Only now there is proof backed up with data.
 
Yeah, I feel like this is a revelation and "no duh" at the same time...

Most don't think of it as an oligarchy but everyone is annoyed with the two parties and how the system works.

But then Democracy in it´s earliest form was not about equality in any way, at most 5% of the population in say Ancient Athen had a right to vote.
It was more about having a system where you where judged by your peers and not by some Priest-king or aristocrat, unfortunately it gave rise to the famous greek tyrants instead... The more things change, the more they stay the same.
 
I do wish there was an equally strong 3rd party because the way things go now, the side not in power tries to sabotage the side in power because if things go bad, then they know they're almost guaranteed to be elected.

What we need is one or two more equally powered parties so that you get elected by accomplishments, not by sabotage. Also I feel like it would tone down the level of "us vs. them" mindset that exists between the two parties.
 
The only ACTUAL democracy in all of the US is Vermont. They are the only state in the US that actually holds local meetings for THE PEOPLE to decide the best course of action for issues. But even then it isn't all of Vermont. Just parts. SO why the hell does everyone call America a Democracy?

While technically it is not a direct democracy, it is a representative democracy or a republic. There has not been a true direct democracy on a national scale since Ancient Athens. The founding fathers specifically avoided being a direct democracy because the fear of the majority imposing their will on the minority. Also, it would not be practical to use a direct democracy in any country with a significant sized population, firstly because there are too many votes to count, secondly because participation in votes would be way lower than those seen in current elections (and those are low to begin with) and more importantly because the common people do not have enough knowledge about the wide variety of topics they would have to vote on to make good decisions.

So we vote for people who we hope will represent our interests and be knowledgeable about the decisions they make. Unfortunately, politicians have not represented those interest very well, mostly because money and advertising buys re-election not actually representing the people. That is a flaw of the system or the people who vote, or a combination of both.
