Citi Field did it back in ‘09. St. John’s vs Georgetown baseball. Was there. Cold as shit and rainy but can forever say I was at the first ever game at citi field even if it wasn’t the “official” first game.
On the heels of the announcement yesterday (and me needing a kick in the pants to get back to writing more), I'm working on a stadium piece with some various bits of information I have.
Send me your stadium-related questions and I'll try to answer as many as I can.
Do we have any data yet on how many seats will be allocated to luxury or premium seating versus general seating? If so, how does that breakdown compare to other Major League Soccer stadiums or venues in other professional sports?
When the new Yankee Stadium opened for example, there was significant debate about the number and placement of luxury suites and how that configuration affected the in-stadium atmosphere. With NYCFC’s new stadium, much of the messaging over the past year has focused on premium ticket offerings. Is that emphasis simply because those packages were prioritized in the initial sales phase, or does the stadium actually include a higher-than-average proportion of expensive premium seating?
More specifically, is there a risk that a larger premium footprint could affect the match day atmosphere by pricing core supporters out of substantial sections of the stadium and replacing them with less-engaged corporate ticket holders?
